I have a site that I noticed has over 4k links and after investigating it appears that these are all hack URLs leading to other pages. Most are now 404 but when searching with site: it shows 4k links and plenty of hack/spam URLs.

Apart from individual link submissions to Google, are there any other methods for removing these links?

Hacked URL will be removed from Google automatically but it will take two to three weeks time.
Also make sure your website is clean from injected codes.

I had the same problem. If you want to eliminate them 301 all 404 pages to the homepage and then build several links to your existing links, in this way Google will crawl your site more and the pages will be eliminated quicker

A friend of mine had the same problem on a pretty nice and big website, but it was almost a year until they disappeared.
Build some links, some social shares etc so the big G crawls your website more often and updates faster.

Thanks for the replies all!

After some digging in GSC I found that Jan 5th onwards had a huge increase in excluded links (there was a notice saying that there will be performance metrics updates so I assume this is what they meant).

I have just outsourced the work now so that someone can add each of the new latest links to Google to be forgotten for 6 months. And I installed Hide My WP which is picking up an insane amount of daily injection attempts.
