Hey guys,

A large chunk of my followers I believe are inactive in my 100k account. With roughly 40k not liking a single post I believe from me completing my following using the follow unfollow method.

I’ve read a lot on here about removing ‘ghost’/inactive followers to help boost engagement.

1. I’m wondering if anyone has had any success with removing such a large amount of followers from there account.

And

2. I’m wondering if anyone believes that this will in turn affect my current reach? Do you think my reach would increase because as my photo is shown to e.g. 100 people and if a higher amount of people are liking and engaging this content then Instagram will think ‘jeez this is good shit’ and then would show it to more people therefore increasing my overal reach. Or do you think that by removing potential ‘viewers’ (roughly half my followers) that my reach will decrease even though these potential viewers aren’t engaging?!

Thanks,
Sam

Hello,
For the first question, I'm also in the process of blocking lots of followers and I use the same as the 'unfollow' methods, which is to start slow (50 blocks a day) and increase little by little until I reach 500. I don't know what the limits are for blocking people, so I assumed it's like unfollowing.

Personally, I don't believe IG looks at your number at followers and watches what procent are active.
And what if you remove a half... You'll also make the number less impressive/attractive to visitors and potential new followers.

Have that in mind as well.

How many people are you planning on unfollowing? Have you noticed it’s affected your reach? :)

It makes sense that to me that Instagram sees the percentage of viewers to likers and bumps your post closer up the top of the feed. Otherwise your average reach for all posts would be roughly the same. Rather then the better posts getting more reach. But I do see where you are coming from. It’s funny how there is a complete split in both sides of the argument at the moment.

Yesssss I 100% agree, however, with such a high following and only 2% engagement in which i’m Currently receiving, i’d Rather halve my following if inactive users and keep the engagement the same so that it looks doubled. I believe for brand deals etc they would be more interested in the engagement rate/customer compared to my other competition
