Remove page what happen to backlinks?

Hey Guys
I want to ask what happen to backlinks point to that page that got removed(404)? does they do not count more to website? the website lose all that backlinks that were on the page?

Got a page that is churn and burned , and im thinking to remove it to lose all that shitty backlinks.

The page will first need to be unindexed. You can either wait it out or request that it be removed.

If I remove the post, it will be uneindex after few days

I had to do this when I got spam to one of my pages. I removed the page and shortly after those bad links disappeared from GWT. So the links are gone.

If it's not indexed the backlinks are gone.

If you have too many 404 reports, that will give Google the wrong picture.

If you know GWT then you can do it,just deindex the page what you want to remove.

hello mate, need a simple clarification about the op's question?

can we use canonical tag to convert or transform those links value to some other new post.

like if one page shows 404. can we use canonical tag by adding or creating that same post with dummy or duplicate content of some newly created and indexed post?

like after the next crawl google will thought that old post is new?

Hey, Thanks to all answeres!
I already removed the page, and seems like ahrefs is saying that i have broken backlinks, because that inbound backlinks are going to a 404 page, which is not indexed anymore, what should i do? I'm safe or this is a big problem? I dont want that spammy links juice.
