Just do enough seo on some other articles to push it down to page 2 or 3

Create some articles on some of the more popular web/article sites. Like Care2, etc. Then Scrapebox blast them to the top. I'd advise around 20 articles, then blast them. I mean, it does seem a little excessive, however, I did do that once for a client and it did work. So. Just my few cents.

Try a few of the strategies mentioned in "Step 3" of the following guide (some similar to what has been suggested here) and you should see some positive results. In addition to creating new unique "positive" content, see if you can just throw some links at already existing positive or "neutral" websites about you/your business/brand when you were running it. Any existing news articles, profiles, press releases, blogs etc that already rank high can often be pushed higher and help knockdown the unwanted result back to the nether-regions of Google.

That would work, wonder if how long and how much energy would be needed?
1. Send a message to the sub-forum admin (Not the main admin) and check whether he could take it down in exchange for few bucks.
2. Hire some reputation management company who would do SEO and bring a bunch of web 2.0 sites in first page and move the forum thread to 2nd page.

Buy domains related to your bad keyword. e.g: yourbusinessnamesabusivekeyword.com, .net, info, and post lot of positive content [Unique IP, Domain owner], Build web 2.0 sites and then Buy SEO services, Blast both web 2 and the sites you built and try to out rank the negative site. It will take time but can be done.

Look at all the other sites ranking on page 1/page 2/page 3 and send a ton of blackhat links to get them up to #1. Since they are already ranking (hopefully with a good backlink profile) they can probably take the abuse, and if one of them can't, you still have the other 28 sites in the top 30 to work with.
