    Whats your VPS running?

If its windows use the built in remote desktop connection.

If its linux I've never tried anything other than putty the SSH client.

    It's built into windows server...

On your pc in vista type "remote desktop connection" into the search bar on the start menu. Then just put your server IP, click connect and login as normal.

Dont you have to allow access on the server side first to RD?

I use logmein also, but if possible always go for remote desktop, as it is a lot faster.

I'm not that familiar with VPS, but with regular computers you have to give outside permission to use remote desktop, that might be the issue in your case, as you need to enable that option, since it is not enabled by default.

I dont know mate was hoping someone could shed light on using it from a server set-up side (looks confusing as hell to me!!)

I posted similar thread up last week as my VNCscreen is too small for a start - i was suggested teamviewer but it crashes out after a while.

I have used log-me in in the past but was hoping to get remote setup so I can max the screen out for a starter..

Email your host and ask them to enable Remote Desktop is the simpliest solution.

Or look for the firewall rules in your vps control panel and enable it through there.

From your Server Manager dashboard at your remote server go to --> Configure Remote Desktop --> Allow Connections... --> Add Users... --> Add your Admin account.

That's it, now you can connect using the Connect to Remote Desktop windows tool using your (remote) Admin username and password.

I'm glad I was able to help :). About your security question, I guess you already noticed the options available when setting up the remote desktop. It also helps if you tweak a little your firewall (tricky), and of course, use a not-so-common admin account name and a strong password.

The Server Manager Dashboard is part of your Windows Server OS, you must first connect to it via the Java VM visor or whatchamacallit. Most people (including me) prefer the Remote Desktop as it's faster and less cumbersome than the Java Remote thingie :p.
