Remaining completely ANONYMOUS

If you want to stay completely anonymous, don't use internet at all. Every VPN provider out there use the same market trick: No logs. There is not too many host that actually allow you to ignore data center abuse messages without getting your server suspended. Don't fall in to that bullshit market trick.

If you purchased your dedicated server for private proxy or VPN use using your own credit card. You're not actually completely anonymous. You need to seriously think about your strategy.

Steal a cell phone and surf the internet using gloves. Remember dump the phone after ten minutes use into the ocean and steal another and repeat the process.

I did not meant to troll but just wanted to point out the fact that trying to stay completely anonymous is not a user-friendly task.

Prepaid cc not connected to myself is not a problem and is what i use for online transactions. So the money trail wouldnt be connected.

User friendly or not, i want to try and accomplish it best I can. And I dont care if the VPN bans, as long as its connected to my ip.

Truecrypt is simple to use. Create a single/normal container which encrypts files you put into it. Create a double/hidden container which is part of the normal container but there is no indication it exists. Even truecrypt doesnt know the hidden exists unless you specifically say it exists and provide the decryption details. If you dont, it'll eventually overwrite the hidden parts and corrupt it. Add some file keys and then you require both the password + all keys used. If even a single key is missing you can't get it. So having 5 keys on 5 different drives (ex: 3 usb, 1 computer, 1 network) would allow for pretty tight security.

If you get paranoid you can do whole drive encryption. Same as containers, everything is encrypted. You lose the pass you're screwed. Yet again you can have a hidden OS which... again... does not exist unless you know it does and provide the info to it. Plausible deniability.

Finally to clean up, Jetico BCWipe (assuming your using a normal hard drive and not flash.) Allows for secure file deletion using several methods implemented by the government to securely delete even the most secret of secret files. Use that on a key or container, it is never coming back.

I am just wondering who you are protecting yourself from. There is a difference between Sites and cops.
Also, if you buy that prepaid CC, will there be cams in that store?

Not that I am an expert, I am not. But I did look into this somewhat. Could this work for you?
Buy bitcoins with cash in envelope, no return address.
Buy VPN with bitcoins. Then buy VCC with bitcoins and with that another VPN.
Then use proxies.
Setup to net would be: laptop on live cd>> VPN>> VPN>>proxies>>internetz

You do this on a laptop that is bought second hand, use Linux Live CD. (Mint, Puppy, backtrack or the one suggested above). That way you can use Macchanger and have no changes to your HDD. Also, Linux doesn't talk as much to strangers like windows does.

VPN suggestions might be found here: http://torrentfreak.com/which-vpn-providers-really-take-anonymity-seriously-111007/

This is not enough to protect you from cops, but it makes it a bit harder. :P

Totally irrelevant but over here in RL I tell people not to buy a great lock but a lot of them, the time invested to break them all will make them shift target. Just a thought.

Also, I did not read about DNS leakage in your plan. You didn't mention some providers don't keep logs of sites visited but do on the login IP and times of data exchange, that is sold as no logs VPN of course. lol
And, I wonder how you keep the incoming money stream anonymous. :P

Hope this helps but ignore as you see fit. :)

WOW! I found this thread searching for something else!

Interesting stuff gang!

My two cents

Look into: Tails, SSH tunneling, TruCrypt, How to avoid DNS leaks, and maybe a
Cantenna to steal wifi lol

obfuscation and encryption are the keys to anonymity!
Either one alone isnt enough.

Become familiar with SSH encrypted tunneling, but you still need to chain-VPNs to bring it all together.

Take TOR for example, three hops, all encrypted.

YOU > HOP1 > HOP2 > HOP3 > SERVER

Hop1: Knows who you are, knows who hop 2 is. Doesnt know hop 3 or server
Hop2: Knows who hop 1, knows who hop 3 is. Doesnt know you or server --- at this point you've achieved anonymity
Hop3: Knows hop 2 and server.

And then the whole thing is reversed.

online anonymity is a myth

it's just a matter of money, skills and motive to trace somebody

Completely 100% agree.

In case your imaginary masterplan backfires and cops raid your house be sure to have all your other, non-related computers encrypted. If they don't get you for what you were doing they'll sue you for your mp3/pirated software.

I know you are not doing anything illegal in real life...

Mac 11 -

An idea for you, you wont be going to heaven if you do this but you are unlikely to end up in prison too.

Buy a second hand laptop and get the name of the person you are buying it off. Make your throw away CC in their name and pay for domains hosting etc with that card. If ever all your layers of privacy fail whatever authority is looking for you will ultimately find the details of the person, who probably initially bought the laptop with their real CC, over everything. He/She saying they sold it will only sound like a lie to cover their arse.

If you go down this route there's a 50/50 chance you will get hit by a bus with the words Karma on the side of it.

First off, you need to use cash for everything. There are several free tools that you can find on the internet but you get what you pay for. Most of what is involved in staying anonymous these days are private programs that people design themselves.

1) TOR - Its a pretty amazing network that should do the job of 1 level of security..but you also have to understand your internet is going to be slow as shit.
2) TrueCrypt - If you think this is hard to use, you probably should not be trying these methods of anonymity.
3) VPN's that don't save logs - The problem with this is that they are usually open and still traceable.
4) If you have some money, the easiest thing to do is get a prepaid cell phone (Use cash and get one that allows multiple device connections) or if you live in a city, then I am sure there are several free wifi networks available...but don't think thats always going to be an option.

Some other things to consider using:

hxxp://openvpn.net/

Fake Name Generator

Trashmail

Hamachi - for creating vpns on demand

Privoxy is something that I have used in the past. Privoxy is a non-caching web proxy with advanced filtering capabilities for enhancing privacy, modifying web page data and HTTP headers, controlling access, and removing ads and other obnoxious Internet junk. Privoxy has a flexible configuration and can be customized to suit individual needs and tastes. It has application for both stand-alone systems and multi-user networks.

All the suggestions in this thread still do not render anyone completely anonymous.

It is impossible. Think about it. Seriously think about it, and think about it in reverse: You're trying to find someone. It's pretty darn easy to do, isn't it? Lots of ways, right? Now imagine how much easier it would be to do this with the know-how, incentive, resources, and law backing you up.

There is nothing you can do that cannot be traced back to you. The best case scenario is they get to you, and you have an encrypted file/signal, or some garbled nonsense about servers not recognizing each other...So they get a warrant and look at other metrics.

Life online isn't like in a movie where the watchdogs are stupid and the tech savvy kids save the day. In the real world, the watchdogs hire the most tech savvy of the kids.

I'm actually interested now: I want someone to explain to me logically how they think they can remain anonymous.

I live in a city and it is fairly straightforward to be anonymous - buy a targeted WiFi antenna that lets you "laser target" buildings and then find some networks that are a quarter of a mile away from your building. Arguably this technique will also work in subdivisions or apartment complexes but the best case is if you are in a high-rise and can view hundreds of potential wifi networks. From there, either find an open network or learn how to crack the wifi password so that you can use their network. Prior to doing this, ensure that you are spoofing your MAC address and that your PC name isn't something stupid like "FIRSTNAME-LASTNAME'S-HACKING-COMPUTER" ...

After that, I would find a VPS that allows you to pay with Bitcoin, and then load up on Bitcoin from anonymous sources as opposed to the ones that take your information like Mt. Gox for example. Obviously use fake information for the VPS. If you are still concerned I guess you could also get a VPN to connect to the VPS from your computer, but keep in mind that while adding additional "layers of security," any of those layers that require personal information/legitimate or traceable payment methods can actually weaken the chain of anonymity rather than strengthen it, especially if the VPN keeps logs as you mentioned.

Great thread thanks everyone - but I think we're talking more obscurity than anonymity here.

Love post6: using a laptop as a One-time pad.

Tor is great but has more holes than swiss cheese. Truecrypt, well....i have no faith in their strategy. Bitcoin is not at all anonymous.

Im sure anonymity is theoretically possible - but I dont know enough to ensure it for myself. FYI Bruce Schneier wrote a good piece on the social aspects a while back: https://www.schneier.com/blog/archives/2010/02/anonymity_and_t_3.html

Go this route, if you want ultra protection:

VPN->Proxy->VPS->VPN->Proxy

Do the same thing over and over again for more security.
If you hide from the cops or FBI, i need to say they CAN find you if it's worth.

If you are dangerous, than they need more money and work harder to find you.
so be careful. ;)

PS: use MAC Spoofer and hack someones WIFI and open it, so its free to use and of course use it.

A VPN client is what encrypts the connection between you and your VPN server. All communications between you are encrypted and a person would have to sit in between you and the server, intercept it all and decrypt it (near impossible). Years of computing power, if they even know the algorithm and cracking process (I sure dont)

This is the only way to do it without having to leave the house. Vpn, Tor, doesn't matter. if you're doing something illegal enough they will find you, so i'd give up on your dream of doing it any other way

Use linux Backtrack , crack a wifi network with it , use truecrypt to encrypt ur HD data ,spoof ur mac, thats it. I hope ur not a pedophile or something like this , if you are i hope u get caught. And anyway you could not be anonymous even if you were invisible yourself, there is a new system where they can find basically anything , its called molecular structure identifier MSI , It uses GPS satellites to basic map and store every single molecular structure in the planet in a data base in real -time, so nah your not safe.... They can find you if they want to.
