I'm currently using WP statistics, but I believe it's counting more traffic than what my site is actually getting. Anyone here have a recommendation?

I use addfreestats.com it is an excellent website and all you have to do is download the addfreestats plugin for wordpress and enter your login info there and it works like magic. It provides some great info as well!

You can use Google analytics with the Google analytics dashboard plugin, its excellent.

lately there is lots of fake referral traffic, you will have to block with htaccess and analytics filter

I advise you to use Google Analytics. This is the most appropriate tool.
