whatever agent you selected, pls rember not buy big amount at first, in order to avoid scam!
 
You'll need to do "due diligence" and find your own factories. I won't give away the golden goose, but you can't make money with an agent. Agents are for big fish that have premium positions in the market. You'll need to be able to risk by using TTs and using due diligence. If you can't afford to lose the money involved in your shipment you're in the wrong game.

how can i go about finding direct factory contacts? as you stated agents are a huge profit killer in a re-sellers world.. i am looking for a reliable supplier for sneakers.. i have spoke directly with a few taobao sellers but when i hear WU as only payment option flags and bells go off in my head.. and using an agent kills my bottom line even though it is the safer route as i am covered by paypal.... any help would be greatly appreciated...
 
your opinion is right, some big agent generally charged 8-10%， and the shipment they recommend is expensive such as ems. actually, in china there are many international shipment which is much cheaper than ems. Big agent not use them because those cheap shipment not afford pickup goods at your office service, so use them, you must send the parcel to the cheap shipment office.It is not convenient for the big agent. But, there is some agent, in order to do long business and get clients, they charge 5%-6% fee and insist use the cheap shipment. for example, one friends in this forum bought 5kg, use ems/dhl will cost at least 90$, use the cheap shipment only need 55$ around.

Most TaoBao agents don't work out very well, or for long.

Here's some reasons:

They charge a percentage, mostly 10% of the total price. This isn't so bad, but keep in mind, the majority of the prices on TaoBao are high because it's at a price to be haggled, much like cars. They won't haggle for you, and if they do, it might just but a tiny bit. Say you find something for $20 USD, well, they could probably haggle it down to $14 USD, but the agent will tell you they could only get $19 USD. Remember, you are paying an extra 10%, so you aren't really getting a deal.

Most TaoBao Agents have no clue on how shipping really works, and force you to use EMS. EMS is great and all, they are one of the most expensive shipping carriers in Asia however. The reason they love EMS is because the carrier comes to their house to pick the item up, and because they get a percentage off from larger agents. They will say they can get you 40% off which is the most common, but in actuality, they themselves are getting 60% off. This is a big deal, because EMS charges are rounded up. Most have no capabilities of shipping beyond small items. Say you want to buy 20 pairs of shoes (with boxes) for resale, they can't ship it because EMS won't ship beyond 20kg. So, you kind of cap out. If you want to buy bulk, you will have to divide up your shipments which is expensive when an actual agent can ship your goods via Airmail for .04 - .08 USD per gram and guarantee it goes through customs.

There's no guarantee they won't just keep your goods. It happens ALL the time. A guy I knew was dead set on buying these keyboards from China using YoyBuy and he spent over 2 grand on them, knowing he could make a good profit selling them in the U.S. - They bought them, and later we found out he just resold them on TaoBao and never sent them. I've heard the same from TaoBaoBuy too.

PayPal in China is a joke, because Chinese Banking is a joke. You can be scammed by someone, and they will close their account and open up a new one within minutes. It's a faceless transaction, and all of their problems can be solved by blocking you.

The number one problem. Many TaoBao Agents themselves get scammed. What happens is, someone in the U.S. will send them money (usually through a credit card) and have someone buy them the goods on TaoBao, then the items are sent to them. The the person in the U.S. will then do a chargeback, which PayPal bends over for, and withdrawals all of the funds from the Chinese account, making their PayPal account negative, and draining funds from their actual bank account. Person keeps the goods, and keeps the money. Now the person in China is using a flagged account with a big negative balance they can't pay off. So, you pay someone using your own PayPal account, you will get flagged as well. Next you know, your PayPal account is limited.

There is one friend in blackhatworld alrealy used shanonwang(at) yahoo, 5% fee and 5kg to Uk only cost 55$, she said use other agent will cost around 90$
