reliable bulk email verification - methods

I got list of like 100 k emails.... I know that many of them are invalid. So I started using atomic mail verifier for this task (verification of emails), but...
1. It does good 2 methods of verificiation: by syntax (if email address is correct at all) and by domain checking (from help file: "connecting to DNS servers and querying domain names of e-mail addresses (e.g. checking domain.com for existence for [email protected] e-mail address)."

However if has big problems with the best and most accurate method of verification - smtp checking. (from help file: Upon connecting to server the program tries to send mail to e-mail address being checked for validity). It usually gets me error message that my IP is banned or that connection was lost.... (using around 15 threads this time, not that many, right ;] ? So, the question is: How to successfully perform smtp checking for big lists of emails for their validity? Any other ways for accurate check of emails ?
My 2nd. question is about spam traps... How can I find them and how to ged rid of them in big email lists ?
