Just a quick question with regards link building.
I keep reading conflicting reports that if you get a link from a relevant site, i.e. similar in niche to yours it is better than a non relevant one.
I tend to go for high pr links as opposed to relevance whats your experiences with this?
Here's the deal on this...They BOTH matter a great deal.
PR ranking comes through ' authority ' recognition by the search engines due to being a highly targeted, topic related resource content driven site, that produces more information on the keyword topic going out than promotional material dragging people into their site.
It is more about the information and related products and services you offer in addition to that information that makes the search engines recognize a site in that fashion.
So, you have to work for both relevance and PR in your backlinking, as the stronger information resource you become in your market and share that content, as well as connect yourself with high PR sites that have some more general relationship to your site topic, the better off you will be in the long run.
People get wrapped up in the instant boost but, it is so much more practical, productive and simply smarter to build something that works permanently rather than something that is consumable.
Imagine the one method like throwing gas on campfire grill and flashing the meal to ash, only to have to hit it with another shot to keep it going once that is all burned off, vs. a steady, well built fire pit, with wood stacked and burning steady over hours, with the only remaining work being to throw another log or two on it once in a while to maintain the flame.
It is your choice to work hours, adding sites that only give you the boost for a week at most, vs. building the relevant connections for better quality content and backlinks, for a longer, better authority and rank building scenario.
