Google also suggests doing nothing about this. This is not mandatory and won't change anything, this is for advanced, thousand outgoing link websites only to better mark links. For Us, the normal users, rel nofollow is the best and only one to be used. In the very best case don't use nofollow on anything but amazon etc aff links.

Haha. I thought the same. Who wants to expose sponsored links that publish? I could not find benefits on that. No SEO benefits. Probably, it could be better for PR agencies.
What if Google decides to ignore no-follow links at all (for SEO purpose)? And 'sponsored' marking to replace no-follow?

They mentioned that rel sponsored will pass some amount of PR, so you might actually want to use that. They are doing it to machine-teach the algo how a sponsored link looks like.

I think webmasters should ignore this and stop Google from dictating how the web should work... Just like we did with AMP pages... In fact there is an organization of Webmasters actively rejecting AMP... The website is ampletter dot org. And the general rejection by webmaster has prevented Google (so far anyways) from using it as The Only Standard for webpages...

Google says not to change already nofollowed link tags, although they insisted any future link attribution to be tagged as either of these.
So PBN Seller are gonna use rel="ugc" in the future? This is still no follow but better than rel="nofollow" I guess?

Remember that when link juice goes outbound to another site it bleeds authority from the originating site. Thus a page with 100 outbound links does not have the same value as when it had 0 links. The new update allows site owners to have more control over where the authority is being used and to do so with a higher degree of fairness.

I can imagine that guest post contracts will now include a "no rel=sponsored" line item. At least those aware of this tag and with the idea to put that into the contract to protect the link juice.

I don't think it's gonna change much ... if I do blogger outreach / guest posts, I am providing super high quality content and a link or two back to my site(s), authority site(s) as well as internal pages. Since I have not paid for those links, it's certainly not "sponsored". Also, blog posts aren't user generated content therefore, it can't be "UCG" either (unless you do web 2.0 propeties). My SEO game is the same.
When it comes to PBNs ... especially private one ... well, nothing changes here either ... so really, grey hatters are fine ... the only people who really should worry about this update are spammers and black hatters.

I don't think I agree with you. PBNs won't use the tags, that's for sure, so people using them are kinda outside the problem. Spammers.. why would spammers and blackhatters have any problem with this? Blackhat links like injected or same color as background never use tags. Spamming on blogs and web 2.0 profiles, those won't be sponsored either.. The only ones that will feel this is people using guest posts from big brands. Because they can use whatever tag they want and people will still buy from them. But the power of their links will obviously slightly decrease.. that's how I see it..

You know how Google is. They expect SEO's will be bothered changing links and site structure just for them 
But the good thing is that previous nofollow links will now be considered by Google for link juice

I never said that spamming blogs with comments or forums or creating content on web 2.0 properties ... I said these would be "UCG" - user generated content tags which probably won't pass much link juice.
