    This is from a facebook group
    WordPress 4.7.4 update added [rel="noopener noreferrer"] to all of my amazon links.

    It does not affect your links on old posts, only on new ones.

    noreferrer essentially strips all the referring code out before it is passed to Amazon so they have no idea who sent them the click.Apparently, it does kill your commissions and potentially get you banned - here is a good thread on Builder Society about it and some workarounds (apart from using a different editor in WordPress!)

    Is there a way to see which links are affected?

    Go to the post and switch to text editor. Hit CTRL+F and search
    Code:
    rel="noopener noreferrer
    It looks like this
    nofollow.jpg

    Been digging around my sites like crazy trying to see if I'm affected or not. I believe I'll be okay. What a mess from Wordpress.

    I don't see why Amazon would ban you for this though. I mean, why would they care - it even leaves them with more moniez if they dont have to pay your commission.

    Please let me know how you think this applies for AMAZON as that is the only affiliate marketing I am using..
    I have no idea about how this could have or have not a problem as Amazon works via cookies I believe and am not sure what this noreferer this has to do with it ?
    Please do comment if you are more experienced.

    i manually removed affiliate links as i had only 4 articles on the site. Some people said if you remove the tag from the editor only it'll comeback when wordpress auto save it. i installed that plugin as well. I didn't checked it working yet because i already removed affiliate links before installing it.

    I've read in multiple places that you can also avoid this problem by adding the following to your functions.php code:

    // Stop TinyMCE from adding "noopener noreferrer" to external links with target="blank"
    add_filter('tiny_mce_before_init','tinymce_allow_unsafe_link_target');
    function tinymce_allow_unsafe_link_target( $mceInit ) {
    $mceInit['allow_unsafe_link_target']=true;
    return $mceInit;
    }

    It's really only an issue if you're having the link opened in a new tab.

    Not true. Norefferer simply means the referring URL isn't passed in the header of the HTTP request, so Amazon doesn't know what URL the click came from. Your referring code is still passed in the query string as normal, so Amazon still knows who to credit with the sale.

    Amazon still knows who to credit with the sale.

    But they don't know where it came from. Not all companies care about that, but Amazon does. You might not get credit for the sale if Amazon doesn't know where the click came from. If it happens a lot, they might cancel your account.

    One of their requirements is that you only send traffic from sites you own or control. Referrer information helps to support that.

    This isnt a personal issue..this would have happened to millions of WP based sites.. hence i dont think there is anything to worry

    You're probably right. When tens of thousands of affiliates become affected by this, then it becomes a problem for Amazon, too, and they'll have to sort it out.

    I just got of the chat with Amazon support. My tag gets passed correctly from the affected links.

    I used the solution that essmier mentioned above and that prevents further link changing. The already affected links still need to be modified manually.

    I suggest you also chat with Amazon support if you are not sure about anything.

    Let us know here if any new info come out.

    The lady I chatted with did not say anything about irregularity of the links.
