Hi! I'm talking about an extremely huge competitive keyword.

It's actually a keyword sentence, formed by two words.

.com, .net, .org, .info, .tv, .biz, .mobi, .ws, .tel, .us, .cn, .me and many many others already taken.

However it's still available in .vg.

    Would you register it?

Would you think it's harder to rank? Harder to succeed?

And just a quick info, only .com and the .org are the only ranking Top 10 on Google for this keyword sentence.

And also, I already have a site about it but it's like abbreviation of word 1 - abbreviation of word 2 like (abv-abv.net)

    What would you do?

    Hi Vini,

There are currently several websites ranking high on google and Alexa rank that don't have the traditional tlds (katz.cd is an example).

One of google creators already stated that the tld has nothing to do with ranking on google.

It all depends if the keyword is competitive. If it is, you'll have a hard time, wether it is a .vg or a .com.

If I was trying to monetize, I would forget the .vg. If it's a personal project, go for it.

Thank you LadRak for the information, but why not monetizing the .vg domain?

    People, More opinions please!

I agree with LadRak, If its a personal project go for it ! If using it for commercial I would avoid it! Yes you could rank for .vg like .com .net etc etc... But when it comes to marketing and monetizing I think you have a better change to build a brand around a .com instead of a .vg domain! Its easier to advertise a .com and yes its easier to sell it later for much more money! Why pay 28$ for a .vg when you could register a .com for 9$ ! I would register .vg domain for a personal project, If it was for affiliate I may consider it (it depends on the competition), can I rank for the keywords? If I was using it to build an authority site, portal, brand etc, then il stick with a .com! My 2 cents

Thanks for contributing. But .com, .net, .org and many many others that are more common have already been taken. For years! And on a dilemma now...Though it's a personal project, not a site looking to make me money, but it will have for sure ads to keep the site up. But now I'm afraid.

    Anymore opinions??

Only you know the kind of website you'll put up.

For example, I recently bought a 4-letter domain that was already taken on the main tlds (even .biz, .ws, .info), but being a personal project and the fact that the .com/.org/.net domains with the keyword are so underdeveloped (some are even parked), I took the risk and bought it.

Being setting it up, hasn't launched yet, but I believe I can make it rank on 1st place.
Because even though it gets around 30k exact searches/month, the other domains are so underdeveloped it's criminal.

By the way, does your website relate to videogames? If yes, it's easier for people that visit your website to remember the domain, terminating in .vg.

It's all about optimizing a website to the search engines, if it's a personal project, and you really want that domain (not because SEO, but because is the name you want), go for it. If you only want that domain for SEO, forget it.
The domain name is the least on SEO when we're talking about a competitive keyword.

    Regards,
    LadRak

    No. Not videogame.

And actually out of all the registered domain only .com and .org have working content.
.net, .info, .biz, .us, and many of the others are simply parked or blanked pages. Though on Google the .com is the only that ranks Top 10. The .org is currently top 20.
