Hi folks
I'm launching a new business based in the US. A big part of the clientele we are targeting is based in New York City, so i plan to have a new york city office address + phone # and will build local citations to the homepage as such, and the homepage will be optimized toward nyc.
However, i plan to expand the business at some point (which is why i will not put 'new york city' in the domain name) to neighboring cities and states.
My plan is, after we rank for nyc-related keywords, is to then create a new page for nyc (and interlink to it from the homepage), followed by separate pages for the 5 boroughs of new york city, 15 biggest counties in NY state, 5 counties in NJ, and 5 counties in Connecticut.
The url structure will appear as follows:
domainbusinessniche.com/new-york
domainbusinessniche.com/new-york-city
domainbusinessniche.com/new-york/new-york-city/manhattan
domainbusinessniche.com/new-york/westchester-county
domainbusinessniche.com/new-jersey/bergen-county
Each page will have 500 words of mostly unique content combining services related to the business/niche, names of the biggest cities/boroughs of each county, some historical info about the region/county, etc.
And of course this strategy leaves open the possiblity of going national at some point.
Open to any suggestions/tips from people who have done similar projects: starting locally but going national
TIA
