Referring users on BlackHatWorld?

I'm sure I will be referring people to BlackHatWorld, but what's the purpose of having a referral link? Couldn't I just say, go to blackhatworld.com? Do users actually get anything for referring someone? Or is it just for recreational purposes or something?
