Hi All,

1.) When I check referring domains of our competitors through SEMRush, I often come across list sites (Top-1000 domains, etc.) and search sites (Ask.com, etc.).

I am wondering how those list and search sites 'pick up' links of our competitors?

2.) Is there a way for our competitors to hide referring domains / back links through tools like SEMRush?

(With other words, competitor has more referring domains or back links than tools like SEMRush are showing us.)

Thanks :)

Semrush has shitty crawlers. Use Ahrefs or Majestic. And yes, you can block their spiders so their backlinks won't be visible. If you own the backlinking properties that is.

use both Ahrefs and Maj to crawl... you may get different RD. How i compare with my competitors is i just take the highest RD to know roughly where i stand

1.) Thanks for your replies! How do webmasters block SEMRush and other tools from crawling? Adding this inside Robots.txt or where exactly?

2.) I am wondering if someone can also answer my 1st question:

"1.) When I check referring domains of our competitors through SEMRush, I often come across list sites (Top-1000 domains, etc.) and search sites (Ask.com, etc.).

I am wondering how those list and search sites 'pick up' links of our competitors?"

Thanks again :)

arn't semrush reports always country specific? That would explain it.
