Hey everyone I have been finding myself sleeping a little to much lately and am wondering you guys have any suggestions to reducing the hours of sleep I need while increasing the amount of energy I have. I want to avoid things like coffee and energy drinks.

Try getting more physical exercise and take a multivitamin, I find that gives me more energy.

Dude I toatally get the most "energized and thoughtful" before bed and when I am trying to sleep. So much so that I keep a notebook by my bed to write everything down...
The only thing better than tired for productivity.... Aderall.

Before I asked my doctor for it, my GF gave me one at crunch time for exams (and I was like 2 days tired)... I accomplished more in 5 hours than I ever could in five days!!

is the magic pill they give to those abnoxious kids who can stop bouncing up and down, but when used for blackhat IM purposes you get a weeks full of work in just under a full days of work.

    Two words:
    Judgment Errors

I was just watching news on TV a state officer while not sleeping 12 days entered a beauty salon and shot 8 guys killing the cashier and his wife and a while later at interrogations, he keeps asking why is he there and that he wants to see his wife unaware of what he just did.

Point is don't go below 7 hours sleeping / day.

I've been on this question for quite some time (2 years actually). I used to be tired all day and always 'out of the mood.' I've changed my day to day activities a lot and this is what really helped me. I now wake up BEFORE my alarm clock nice and refreshed.

-Find out your sleep pattern. For me, I realized that I had delay sleep phase disorder--meaning I fall asleep later then other people. After I learned about this, I just shifted my sleep time until 2 or 3am and wake time to 10am.
-I wake up and, for breakfast, I drink a green smoothie. I put spinach, kale, collard greens, a banana, and almond butter into the blender. Add some ice. Yum. Raw greens for breakfast. This is my coffee replacement. Works wonders.
-I work for a few hours and, around 2ish, I take a 20 minute nap.
    -I work out 3 times a week.
-I do not drink coffee. It was hard to quite so I replaced coffee for green tea for the first few weeks.
-I go to bed at the same time every night on the weekdays. On the weekends, I relax this rule a bit but, after a few weeks of this, your body will be used to the schedule sunday night.
-One hour before bed time, I stop everything I'm doing and get into my bed time routine of 20 minutes of meditation, shower, and read a book.
-I take 1.5mg of melatonin every night. Helps me fall asleep and stay asleep. I stay inside most of the day so I don't think I see enough sunlight.

Now, I am alert and awake and get MAD stuff done every day. No pills or drugs needed. By follow what my body says and by eating good food, I feel amazing.

I also don't like aderall because it makes me chew my jaw too much.

Exercise and eat healthy. Easier said then done though. Make sure your digestion is good. Your body uses a lot of energy to digest food, especially if it's crap/heavy food. Take 1+ probiotics/day and maybe get a colonic.

Don't sacrifice your sleep. Staying up late on one or two days is not a problem but your life can become pretty messy if you start sleeping less on purpose. Stress increases, you feel like shit and productivity decreases.

Unless you are an insomniac who just can't sleep properly, get at least 5 hours of sleep a day.

Green Smoothies, Nothing outperforms getting super fast proper nutrition from living food, and they taste pretty good.

This helps as well, here is what I recommend, scroll down to Superfood Smoothies.

It is best to make yourself as a lot of store bought ones will put in a ton of apple juice to make it sweeter.
