Redirect Question

Hi,

One of my pages is ranking in google page 2 but recently I changed its format.

It was WordPress domain.com/2016/10/10/keyword and I changed it to domain.com/keyword and added a redirect to the new page. It's been like 2 weeks and the first version of the page still appears in google the same way, will it ever change?
And where am I suppose to build links now, to the new one or the old one that redirects to the new one?

I've built so far to the new page and did not see any improvements.

It will be very hard to rank if you don't have enough traffic. If a lot of people are visiting your page, it will be reranked very fast.

URLs should never change. All you can do is 301 everything to the new address and hope not to lose too much.

That is why the first think you should do with WordPress is to set the friendly URL structure. It is best to use "domain.com/title-of-the-post"
You can also use category in the structure but don't use dates.

It will change but takes time. Build links to the new url and check if the new url is also indexed on top of the old one. You can also use the remove url feature from WMT and remove the old one. Then use the fetch as googlebot, and submit your domain to index. It will rank your new page and your old one will be removed.

It'll rank back where it was in a while as long as you're properly redirecting with 301 (permanent).

Link to your new URL. It would look strange and unnatural (if Google were looking at it) to have new links pointing at the old URL after the redirect was put in place - I'm assuming that Google notes when a redirect is found and waits for x amount of time before updating SERP data.
