Redirect homepage but rank well?

I want to advertise a product, and I got a domain name to redirect to my affiliate link. My question is, can I bring up the rank of the domain by hosting it and filling a bunch of pages with good content, but then redirect the main home page?

I will be doing offline advertising, so I want people to be able to go to my home page and instantly be redirected to my affiliate link, but I also want a high page rank.

Does this work?

Will be best if you keep landing page different then home page... Should help you in SERP and getting high PR... You can place good attractive banners and text links on your site to your landing page or offers...

So if I understand correctly, the page people find when they're searching and the one the eventually end up at, should not be the index page, correct?
 
What you want wont work that way.
You can build up your non-affiliate page and let it rank in google. if it does for the keywords your are looking for, then you can add a 301 redirect. That way you can redirect your traffic directly to your affiliate page. But the consequence will be, that Google drops you non-affiliate page of the SERPs because it redirects to your "non-optimized" affiliate page.
 
Ok so here is another question:

What if I buy a domain and forward it directly to the product page that im advertising for? Can I use backlinks and advertising to bring my domain up in googles rankings, even though it has no content of its own?

I am new to this but I was looking to do something similar and what I ended up doing was creating my own landing page on my domain and then forwarding the ORDER NOW link to my affiliate order page instead of the affiliate landing page. I did this with a clickbank product. I am not sure how this works with other affiliate networks, but something that you could check into.
 
The thing is I dont want to get another monthly hosting package until I get my first sale... which is why im forwarding.
 
You can get free hosting at freehostia for 1 year I believe. Use this to test the product and your domain and if it works out switch hosting or upgrade to a paid account.
