Reddit Reputation Issues

Reddit can be particularly difficult for reputation management because individual communities have their own rules.

If a business believes a Reddit post contains inaccurate or policy-violating information, would you approach the subreddit moderators first, Reddit's reporting process, or both?

Interested in hearing how experienced people handle these situations.

Moderators first always. Reddit's official reporting process is slow and rarely works for defamation unless it's something illegal. Most mods will remove posts that break their rules if you approach them respectfully. That said monitoring is key catch issues before they blow up. Pigbam has a Mentions section that tracks keywords across subreddits so you can jump on things early. Or you could use something like Brand24 but it's pricier.

Honestly, I’d try modmail first. A lot of stuff that businesses consider ‘reputation issues’ isn’t necessarily something Reddit will remove.

You could try mod mail, from personal experience though dealing with their support and mods is more often than not a total time waste.

Try modmail first, they'll hear you out and if you're correct and not in error they may remove the post.

It is more in line with community culture to first reach out to the sub-forum moderators for communication. Directly reporting issues upfront is not recommended, as it may provoke community resistance and potentially worsen reputational risks.

I get approached by many customers who want to deal with this issue. We try to contact the moderators, but most of the time, they won't delete the post . What we do is leave high-quality comments on the post talking about our good experiences with that service or product, so the positive comments outnumber the negative ones. But you have to do it in a smart way, or it will be too obvious that you're the owner of the service trying to clean up your reputation.

In case the matter is related to community guidelines I would always begin with the subreddit moderators first should the content violate Reddits guidelines in general I would report it via the websites built in system as well it appears that an objective approach and concrete evidence work better than a reputation based one.

If the information is genuinely false having clear evidence ready will make the conversation much easier
