Reddit moderators - are you able to remove comments after a thread has been archived?

I've always wondered what could potentially happen to comments once a thread has been archived after 6 months at Reddit.

Is it possible for you guys to remove them? Or is the thread archived and therefore "set in stone" in terms of the comments that have been left?

I'm asking for a friend...
