Everytime you get mentioned online w/o a link is that effective?

If someone was to spam there brand with the links would it matter? I see competitor doing this to a degress and wondering if part of his SEO strategy. He is inserting the post and spammy chatter on reddit

Might not give you backlinks, but still builds authority in Google’s eyes if done right.

Reddit links are useless for anything SEO. But you can get a massive flow given how many niches there are available. Any you could even rank top 1 with that specific Reddit post. So you could be receiving not only visits from the community itself, but from Google random visits aimed to certain long tails. Treat some Reddit posts as "entries" of your own blog. Nowadays its #1 traffic lead for certain type of queries (but not all, be aware that for YMYL topics, Reddit doesn't perform well).

I see, I need to drive through a campaign for long tails in my 2 niches. I do rank 3rd on a generic keyword with reddit randomly. I need to build a few more accounts up.

Yes, Reddit mentions can help with SEO indirectly. They drive traffic, build brand awareness, and sometimes get picked up by Google if the thread ranks well. Just make sure it looks natural.

Reddit mentions can have an impact on SEO, but not in the same way as traditional backlinks. Google views links from Reddit as "no-follow," meaning they don't directly pass on PageRank

Brand mentions without links can still boost authority slightly, but spamming them—especially on platforms like Reddit—can backfire if flagged as low-quality or manipulative.
