Its some kind of reddit ban.
This happens mostly if a creation method is detected, than all of the accounts that are created with this method getting this error message (wrong login details) or just get shadowbanned.
Password reset dont helps. These accounts are gone :/

It's a type of ban.
Many types of bans on Reddit.
1. Shadowban (cannot view profile when logged out)
2. Permaban (It will tell you when you log in)
3. Temporary ban (It will tell you how many days you are banned for when you are logged in)
4. Subreddit bans (arbitrary bans from subreddit moderators)
5. Cannot login bans, it will just give user/pass errors. Password reset won't do anything.

As long as you account is live (profile should be live when visited and logged off), and if it is not a new bug, most likely reddit has server issues in your zone/for password/for certain features.
Server issues usually goes away in a few hours or 1-2 days.
I got that error with password a few times in the past, but it always solved itself after a few days in my case. Accounts are still in good standing.

Not that easy if you have the original email.
You'll always get notified of an email change and claim it back with no issues.
It's easier to scam someone selling the account and claiming it back than being hacked.
