Reddit is using AI now

I don't know if you guys knew this, but Reddit has been using an AI as a “sheriff” on Reddit for the past few months. This AI scans every comment, and if anything sounds even remotely promotional, the comment gets banned and if you’re unlucky, your account might get banned as well.

Even regular users on Reddit have already started complaining that completely normal comments are being deleted by their AI, and that you basically don’t have the right to free speech anymore because an AI decides what you’re allowed to say and what you’re not allowed to say.

Do you think Reddit is going to die soon after introducing this AI?

I see lots of people promoting their things correctly in the right subreddit everyday, with the right labels/flair. Your probably talking about the group of people that want to not only break the rules, but want a sure fast iron clad agreement that they won't be banned for breaking rules? :D
 
Oh yeah, I can attest to that. I, however, think we should each reach out to their customer support so they can ease up on the leash. It's too tight. AI should not now take charge and scrutinise even basic comments. It's not sweet
 
We've discussed this thoroughly in several threads, from suspicions to confirmation of them using AI

My comment remains the same. They're probably spending a fortune in tokens. Don't know how scalable this is but it is what it is

And it works. They're swatting accounts like flies
 
A friend of my friend is working for reddit, he today confirmed they use some super new ai to get rid of comments and posts the ai dont like

Reddit may not go away any time soon, but overzealous robot moderating might drive legitimate users to leave. As long as innocent comments are flagged, they won’t stay.
 
Yeah, I’ve noticed this too Reddit seems to be getting much stricter about AI-generated content so I think adding real personal experience and keeping the writing natural matters more than ever
 
If a comment looks too promotional, rewrite it to answer the question first instead of pushing a product or link.

I do not think Reddit will perish solely because of this, but poor moderation choices can affect users’ trust. If anything, the larger problem lies in striking a balance between blocking out spammers and punishing legitimate convrsation.
 
This is a very worrying problem. I suspect they are using local models like DeepSeek to keep their costs manageable (since time is not a real concern, they can simply re-queue comments for testing based on e.g. frequency to push higher volume accounts to be checked first) and this will only get worse as AI costs come donw.
 
Moderation by artificial intelligence will not kill Reddit; however, there might be problems caused by too many false positives. The key is to identify spam content while not limiting ordinary users.
 
This has been the case for more than a couple of months, their algorithm has been doing this for a good couple of years at the very least.

Yeah this is old news. I don't think Reddit will die, I believe that it will make its AI better and then use it extensively, only directing very serious offenses to human support to handle.
