Reddit is just IP banning

Want to start off by saying that I am not a marketer. I'm just a normal reddit user that just cares about my privacy.

After I started getting into some heated debates on reddit, I had several people try to stalk me through my comment history, trying to find whatever edge they could to win the argument.

So I created 2 alt accounts but I didn't really use them much, they maybe had like 10 comments each after 6+ months. There was absolutely no marketing, advertising, or links on any of them.

One day I was logged into my cheap vpn that was not residential or anything. I clicked on a reddit link and it said I was blocked unless I logged in and I was too lazy to turn the VPN off. So I logged in on one of my alt accounts. After a few days, the account was banned. None of my other accounts were banned.

Don't use VPN's - paid or free - for Reddit alt accounts. Destined to fail.

Let's say you select USA on your VPN. Let's even allow the idea that there are 200+ US servers.

If the VPN is well known (it is, as you found it), you're linked to innumerable other peoples reddit accounts using it.

VPN's are not a cheap shortcut for Reddit. They will not work, period.

To force home this point; Reddit as you stated in your OP block VPN connections often from even ACCESSING reddit. "you've been blocked by our security network", etc. That should make it crystal clear that VPN's are useless for multiaccounting. They're blocking you from even loading the homepage; so how long do you fancy your ALTs would last???

I didn't think they would just ip ban.

I'm not even a marketer so it didn't even cross my mind that using a vpn would get my account banned.

It's because that VPN connection has been used to try and access reddit from thousands (10's of) in a recent period of time.

This immediately links all of those accounts.
 
I understand that. But surely there are plenty of legit users on the same VPN that they wouldn't just blanket ban anyone that touched the IP. Or they are just nuking any account that touched the ip that is under X karma or age.
 
No surprise, unfortunately VPN IPs are spammed to death, they are abused by spammers and if you are unlucky enough to touch one of those blacklisted IPs, your account can be easily compromised (not only on Reddit)
 
That’s because your VPNs IPs might be used by a bunch of other people that are using their accounts to spam, so Reddit blocks it.

If your account is as aged as you claim and there’s no actual spamming/promotion going on you could probably successfully appeal your account’s restriction, personally managed to reverse it a bunch of times. Might not be worth the hassle though if the accounts are just throwaways.
 
The first thing that comes to mind is that the IP is blocked, or that there are too many accounts using that IP and they have committed violations so that IP is being monitored. Not all accounts of that IP are blocked, only a few accounts are suspected.

It was just around 6 months old. I'd rather start another account than to have one that might be potentially flagged in case they start banning people for having multiple accounts.

I mean its probably cause of the low activity of that account and youre using a vpn. thats really a deadly combo.
 
I wanted to add that I did not even post anything on the account after logging in while connected through the VPN.

The thing is, their block page tells you to login so you won't be blocked from even viewing content. If they are going to ban people just for using a VPN they shouldn't tell people to login.

You could spend an hour (at most) downloading AdsPower, learning the basic fundamentals (e.g., checking your profile fingerprint with pixelscan.net and running your IP against publicly available spam/blacklists), and thus guaranteeing no fingerprint link.

In case you're on the fence about following the above advice, I should add that Adspower offers 5 profiles free, forever.

They've been doing this for over a decade. Reddit only allows multiple accounts for legitimate users of the platform (i.e, social). The fact that we're communicating on an IM forum right now affirms your use case falls outside that remit.

Sorry, this is complete nonsense. Reddit frequently blocks access prior to even logging in - if you use a VPN, you will receive a "You have been blocked by our security network" error. Granted, this isn't always the case. Be in no doubt, however, ALL accounts using that VPN are suspected... and without doubt, the acc is worthless if its intended use is commercial/marketing. You've waved a massive red flag, and sure as death & taxes, the acc will be banned/shadowbanned/collapsed before your third spam comment.

I'm not a marketer, my usage is normal usage, there's is 0 advertising.

The reason why I am talking here is because this forum came up in a google search for reddit account bans. It is not because I want to get into black hat advertising.

My main account and other alt account remains unbanned.

Ah gotcha. Sorry, my bad.

On the assumption that the acccs were purely social, you will still periodically experience "blocked by security network" notifications. Switching to another connection via your VPN client should solve this. Reddit doesnt prohibit VPN use but these roadblocks will reoccur intermittently.

After looking over your OP again, can you share the ban message that displays after logging in? It's possible (but not always) that it states your account has been permanently banned, but you actually just have to reset the password.
 
Even though legit users use VPN's, the bulk of them use it to spam. So if you're using a VPN and your account has something else wrong with it that Reddit doesn't like then you'll probably be banned
 
It's better to use the fingerprint browser. This is anti-detection.
