My website drops ranking for more than 50 keywords from 1st n 2nd page to outside top 300 zone, and Google tells me that there's been no manual actions (It happened last month, when I don't think there's been any panda update or anything):

Meannns that you're not affected manually. Reconsideration request only works if they take manual action.

Yep - you have been hit algorithmically. Which likely means Penguin, which in turn means your backlinks are likely out of balance.

How were you building backlinks to the site? What kind of links? What was your linking strategy?

One thing to do is to look at your "link spread" and see if it looks unatural to the search engines.

Basically if you have a high percentage of links as a key phrase, then this will look unatural and a good thing to do would be to dilute them down with social qualifier links, things like "website", "url", "click here" etc.

Though that said, if it is a Penguin hit, then check a lot of your on-site stuff also, things like heavy key phrase use throughout the page, meta's, title tags or even headings.

Something seems to have tripped googles auto "naughty boy" switch and they would be the first 2 things I would look at.
