Well, most big ones are ok. It depends on what server (physical machine) you end up. for example i had my site loading blazing fast and server resources were underused in the first 2 weeks. Then it got slower, probably because there are some heavy sites on the server.

I have nothing but trouble with Hostgator. They are constantly blocking the public access to my http folders b/c they say my sites are using too many resources. I have 2 accounts with them with 10 ip's each and they have blocked about 60 of my sites until I "optimize" the sites ie. install qp-super-cache. Then they will turn the sites back on. This happens to me about twice a week. I am looking for a new provider like bluehost to move over to. Just my experience with 125 sites on hostgator's seo hosting platform. BTW they were recently bought out and I hear the new management is the reason for their decline.

+1 for Dreamhost. I've really enjoyed my experiences with them. I don't know if whether other host do this as well, but I really, really like how Dreamhost is really forthcoming regarding any issues (you can subscribe to rss, twitter, look at their site).

I've set-up a site and maintained through SFTP and through Wordpress and every easy. Also, the integration with Google Apps was seamless. Thumbs up from me.
