Hi guys,

I want to buy a laptop for my grandparents, but because I am running almost 5 years on Macbooks, I have already no clue about HW configurations and stuff like that.
I would like to ask you what laptop would you recommend me for watching movies, browsing the internet, playing some games (not new ones, simple old ones - cousins) for a reasonable price. The screen would be probably the best 15", as an OS Windows 7. Also, I remember I had pretty long time ago an HP laptop (like 6 years ago) and the laptop was noisy as hell, which drove me crazy, so something quiter would be nice too.

Thank you in advance!

Dell would be a good choice for them for watching movies etc.My mum used it and its very easy for her.

If you're buying something for someone else, the easiest route is to have them buy it with you. Go to your local electronics store that sells laptops, have them pick out what they like, then go online and buy it cheaper if you want.

Pretty much any laptop will meet the specs required for what they're doing, so it becomes a preference game. Have them pick out what they want. Windows 7, however, might be a bit hard to get on a new laptop. If for whatever reason they don't want Windows 8 then you'd probably have to downgrade it yourself.

There are quite a few that fit what you are after. Try to get an i5 and above if possible. The i3's are a bit outdated now. Have you thought about getting an iPad instead? My grandparents much prefer it over their laptop.

Why not go with the Mac itself man? I know some people hate it, but I think it's a good choice for grandparents.

No Windows updates, no anti-virus update, no anti-spyware update, no driver somehow gone missing, no crashes, no blue screens, etc. I have med student friends who have no idea how their browser started showing loads of ads (takes 5 mins for me to take care of, but 25 mins via screen-sharing to have them do it!).

A Mac with VLC Media Player, Skype, and Firefox or Chrome should do the trick. And most simple/old games can be played in the web browser itself.

Just Google things like "retro games" or "old PC games" and bookmark a bunch of the good sites or games you know they would like, and show them how to access those bookmarks.

No body can beat Lenovo - Thinkpad - I would recommend go for it as its rugged, smart and cheap.
