I decided to have a go using WP as a CMS but soon ran into problems, small stuff but still important like removing unwanted graphics from a template, so I installed Joomla to give it a try.

I like it's flexibility and on looking about there are lots of tutorials but they are mostly poor quality.

Can you recommend a quality resource for learning Joomla quickly and to a decent standard? If I have to I would be willing to consider some sort of membership/pay site.

Thanks aamcle

lyndaDOTcom has great tutorials. If you don't feel like downloading them, just use a throw-away email address and sign up for a 7 day free trial.

just ggle: lyndaDOTcom 7 day free trial

Doesn't You tube have tutorials as well? You can find pretty much any kind of tutorial there. Same thing for teacher tube dot com.

The best way to learn it is to explore it hand-on...

i have spent a lot of time watching tutorials and i can tell you that the big big majority of them will not teach you how to handle certain situations. To be more specific, what a joomla tutorial will teach you is:

1. Sections, categories, content, modules. How to add content, make categories etc. What modules are and how to install, enable them or change the positioning.
2. The most basic joomla coding stuff which is not that necessary to be honest.

If you still want to watch 1-2 turorials try to find lynda tutorials.

What you could do is:
-Try to find 1-2 difficult ideas/websites and start from the very beginning. Dont install quickstart packages and try to install a simple template and build the website from scratch.
-Try to embed videos, flash, modules, articles in modules,
-Try to change the template colours, change the logos, change the modules positions, create new modules positions, install newsletter, install components to watch the website traffic, install extensions for fater crawling and sitemaps etc.

It might take some time but you will not learn how to build a good joomla site unless you have built and erased 5-6 websites.

It might be a good idea if you would simply try to copy another joomla site.

Joomla is amazing and all these stuff that wordpress has are also easy to get into a joomla site. Google crawls my sites in approximately 1-2 minute after i add content and these myths around joomla or other "more difficult " cms are simply myths.
