Recipe Website, I can't make a dime

I think it can definately be monetized, but the niche is so saturated I doubt it will be any kind of cash cow.

The niche is NOT saturated. Sure it might be filled with half-assed websites, but what's the quality of those websites. It just so happens I come to the "recipes online" niche from the User's perspective, and not the IM'rs, and I've discovered that they are all CRAP. allrecipes.com in particuluar, but even Betty Crocker is crap. I could give you a list, but it's not that difficult. Just do a bunch of "dry runs" simulating a User attempting to find and then PRINT a recipe. In my case, I have a hot kitchen filled with food, and a computer in the next room. I need a (for example) recipe for bread, and when I search for it, instead of being presented with high-quality results, with the ability to exclude and include certain "classes" (diet/no diet, white flour/wheat flour) etc...) the results are polluted with stupid verbiage about how "...when I was a child my white-haired grandmother would bake this loaf of bread in her brick oven that was built on the chassis of a 1936 Studebaker.", and I don't give a fuck about that.

I'm not trying to read a story on some site like longwindedstories.com, I'm trying to find a fucking recipe to make dinner RIGHT NOW. These numb-nuts are catering to a class of people that want to be wooed into a recipe as if it were an extended session of foreplay, and I want to start right off the bat with some hard-core fuckin'.

If you follow my metaphor here.

Don't cater to fat women that read recipes as if their were clitoris-stimulating romance novels, target your site to ME, the guy that's trying to fucking cook something RIGHT NOW. I'll bookmark your site, and visit it (and only it) forever and never think to look anywhere else.

I could go on & on about this. I read some of the most stupid shit on IM forums when they go on & on about "content". "Content is King" and "High-Quality content" and content this and content that. FUCK content. Content doesn't mean a fucking thing when the User/Visitor cannot find it.

Read that shit again.

Content doesn't mean a fucking thing when the User/Visitor cannot find it.

It's not enough to have high-quality content, one must also have a high-quality search engine so that the results can be refined so that the Visitor doesn't have to spend a lot of time wading through recipes that have absolutely no interest in. In terms of delivering high quality site-wide search results, newegg.com is the best I've ever seen, but over the last couple of years they have started to delibarately degrade those results in order to present to the Visitor what they want the Visitor to purchase (advertising), instead of displaying the results the Visitor wants to see. And even at their best, newegg's results still had room for improvement. When searching for a power supply for a wireless router (for example), they would lump routers that ran off of 9, 12, 19 volts all together, and if you needed a 12 VDC power supply, you had to manually inspect each of the displayed result's internal pages in order to figure out which ones were 12 VDC, and then from that group, make your decision. But you never could actually exclude those that you didn't want from the visual field. You had to "mentally ignore" those that you did not want. It was annoying, particularly when you had so many past experiences when you were able to exclude undesired qualities from the displayed results.

And now they've gotten even worse, in an attempt to manipulate the Visitors by forcing them to consider items they have absolutely no interest in. It pisses people off, and the brand/site loyalty that they've spent years earning is being degraded, and is giving some other online electronics vendor the opportunity to show up, and take away all their previously loyal customers. A stupid move if you asked me, deliberately degrading the very thing that has created your company, and alienating the people that have made it what it is. Or was, because I don't think they are coming back. Someone else will take their place. Maybe TigerDirect, IDK.

So this is the "landscape" with regard to online recipes, IMO. There is a vast ocean of opportunity here, available to someone that understands exactly what I have attempted to convey here, and has the determination and ability to deliver to the Vistor/User what it is that (to a great extent) they probably do not know that they want. So, when they get it, it will be a "revolutionary surprise" and they will marvel at how unique it is, and will never go anywhere else.

You could turn it into a membership website and charge for memberships for unique recipes.
I do not think advertising anything from Amazon would help since most people will go to Amazon for a cookbook if they want it.
