Recipe Website, I can't make a dime

Hi,

I have a recipe website that gets 200 hits a day organic google. It's number 1 for a niche recipe phrase.

I have average time of 3 minutes per visitor, but I can't make any money off the site to save my life!

The best was adsense at .12 per click but I got banned from google and still not sure why.

Anyone with recipe websites know how to monetize them?

Throw up some links to amazon promoting cook books and cookware
 
I had a recipe site for awhile with similar results. You might want to try amazon affilliate content and or maybe some cj affilliate programs. I think cj has cooking dot com and a few others.

I've tried recipe books in the past. Sold like 2 in a month via amazon.

Tried CB. Haven't tried CJ.

Any other good ideas?
 
Make your own cookbook e-book related strictly to your niche for which you rank 1st.

This should bring some nice bacon if done properly.
 
So try to twist it a bit, on page as like: ad position or similar, or change topic slightly, guys up said OK suggestion, see what can you do with kitchen apparel.
Like, they found recipes, but maybe she/he wants a new microwave. :)

Doesn't seem like recipe websites are very lucrative at all. Also, I doubt you will get any sales from Amazon since people are already finding recipes online and don't need cookbooks. I'd put up something like "How to cook perfectly eBook" or something.
 
Online ordered/delivered groceries? Not sure if thats even possible :P
 
I've been planning on a recipe site for quite a while. I even have the domain I bought for it just sitting with a simple coming soon static page on it. I haven't taken the time to work on it yet though because I don't see it as a really profitable niche. Recipe sites are so saturated, I think their really just something for people to do that have a passion for it. The only reason I'm even messing with it is as a tribute to my father and grandfathers business, mostly something for my family. I think it can definately be monetized, but the niche is so saturated I doubt it will be any kind of cash cow.
 
do better keyword research... Cooking has terrible cpc I have had a few sites like this and it is hard.
 
do a better seo so you can have traffic via search engine or you can promote it on social networking sites
 
Turn it into a membership site.

Have things like Facebook Page, Twitter/ email list etc.

Then focus on the long sell. It's more effective, providing you have the dedication and content strategy in place, to build a nice, authoritative community within the niche so you can later up-sell splash pages for converts (cookbooks, Cooking DVDs, kitchen utensils etc). Things like "The ideal kitchen set-up to cook XXXX like a PRO" with links to aff utensils etc.

A slow cook produces great results :)
 
Is there any way you can target keywords that catch a customer in the process of buying? Like 'Delia smiths cookbook reviews' (just an example), if they're searching for that they're most likely well on their way to purchasing the product. If you can rank for such terms, you can net them through an affiliate link.
 
You can give away a freebie for opt-in, build a list, you can content lock the site and you can put CPM on it.
 
It's actually based on your content and the way you blog, before, I tried autoblog method to drive traffic from pinterest with photo blog. It worked pretty nice with adsense, but after that they banned me unexpectedly. One of reasons is that my blog doesn't have much content, just photos.

There are two things you could be missing out.

1. You aren't using opt in and follow up emails especially if you want to go the affiliate marketing way.

2. You are ranking for the wrong keyword most likely a free information term and not a buying or close keyword.
 
You can rank for the free kw and collect a list and then in the list sell something that is very close to the free kw.
