I believe this penalty was applied because i had 17 files on my website sharing the exact same content. they were all either removed or given unique and original content. i submitted a reconsideration request.

Today i have received this response:

We received a request from a site owner to reconsider how we index the following site: http://www.site.com/.
We've now reviewed your site. When we review a site, we check to see if it's in violation of our Webmaster Guidelines. If we don't find any problems, we'll reconsider our indexing of your site. If your site still doesn't appear in our search results, check our Help Center for steps you can take.

Still no movements in the serp, all my keywords which were ranking in top 5 prior to the penalty are still in the fifties.
can i expect changes in a few days or are penalties usually removed instantly, thus meaning i am still penalized?

UPDATE: all my keywords are now in the top 15. They used to be in the top 5 before, hopefully they will climb back to what they used to be.

However, this confirms me the penalty was lifted.
