Hi,
Had a good site with quality articles, made with ChatGPT, but lost all rankings with the march Update.
The August Update does not seem to have improved anything, even though I’ve rewritten around 50 of 300 articles.
What is your experience: Should I keep improving my current site or create a new one with the rewritten articles?

Thanks

Hello. In your case I think it's will be easier to create a new one.
Usually old sites with old content are more difficult to rank or index, especially when using Chatgpt.

Firstly making an article full of Chatgpt is not a quality article Google won't index it and you can get the negative effects only

I would like to know what is your site age and as you said 50 articles you have written, is it again a tool article or a handwritten article?

If your site has good authority and backlink profile try to rewrite the article and optimize your content. But if you feel if your site is too much affected you can start with new site. Also don't use AI generated articles if you are looking for long term. Moreover the decision should be in your hand. It depends on how much time and money you can invest for a new site!

An account once hit is difficult to revive. Don't waste your time.

I agree that once Google has had your site in its crosshairs, then it's very difficult to recover no matter what you do. I can speak personally as I have had a few sites hit. And the traffic has never returned. So if I were you I would start a new property from scratch. I'm not sure about using 100% AI-generated articles though. The internet is saturated with those, and I think Google is devaluing them bit by bit. And yes we all know examples of an AI article that is getting good ranking. However the ranking success rate is becoming rarer for AI generated content and that's likely to continue. Personally I would make an effort to edit your articles to make them a little more 'human'

Unless you have a god-tier domain name or backlink profile, I wouldn't bother trying with a previously penalized website.

Thanks for all the input. The site doesn’t have a manual penalty (as far as I Can see), but I guess that you’re right that it could be flages somehow, since it’s not coming back.
All articles are of high quality.

Thanks again

You can go with the new site and if it is your long term project don't use AI generated articles. You can rewrite the articles or use manually written articles.

If G already said no don't waste your time in it - move on and start a new one

Since you’ve already rewritten 50 articles and haven’t seen any improvement, it might be better to create a new site and focus on using handwritten content. As others mentioned, if you're using AI content, it’s best to rewrite it into more human-drafted articles to align with search engine guidelines.

If your current site still has potential and you’re seeing some improvement from your updates, it’s worth sticking with it. But if the issues seem too deep and the changes aren’t helping, starting fresh with a new site and your updated content might be a better move.

Haven't seen any ranking improvements after redoing 50 out of 300 articles...

It would be best to create a new one since the old one is tainted already.
