Rebuilding a website after a penality hit

Hi everyone,

Recently, and as many others, I was hit severely by G updates and it made me rethinking my whole link building strategy.
I lost some sites which were making me some passive income (not that much but was growing), and one business website which was giving me some leads for my offline services.

Anyway. I did some stupid mistakes back in the days while creating some links and ordering services which I should have, obviously.
I wrote all the content of theses different sites myself, and was ranking #1 for my targeted keywords before the update.

Now, I don't think they will ever go back, and even if I do, they will still have many silly links.

I would like to rebuilt them, and while I'm here, getting them fresh new looks and new or bought domains and improve them. What I don't want is rewriting all the content. I would like to use all my old content, as it's pretty much static content.
Thing is I don't want the content to be duplicate from my old sites. How should I do this ? Just delete everything from theses sites, and wait until I can't find them anymore on Google with site:"URL" ?
Any other step I should be aware of ?

If I were you I will move all the content to new website, and 301 redirect the old url to new one. I think it works.

why not start building quality links again now.
My website also got 2.1 penalty but some of my keywords are coming back to its positions.
So wait and see what happens.

You can download links from your WT and add them to Disavow Tool. Of course you should keep valuable links. I have tested it and submitted for review. I am sure it will help

Disavow definitely works. You can hunt down a fiverr service for it.

Of course I course disavow and such, but here I'd rather start with a very fresh and clean link profile.

Google doesn't keep records of deindexed content, so just take it off your site and wait, soon you can reuse it without problems.

I have some churn and burn projects which got hit during the last months and with penguin 2.1.

My advice would be to buy a fresh new domain, move all the content over to the new domain and throw away the old domain.

Edit your robots.txt like this on the old domain:
User-agent: *
Disallow: /

Perhaps you can play around with the htaccess file too and I delete all files on the webspace of the old domain as well.

I wouldn't advice to use a 301. My experience is that sooner or later the "penalty" will be forwarded to the new domain as well.

This way I can rank the new domains again with my usual strategy for churn and burn sites...

I don't believe this to be true. We tried this with one client who wanted to use his old content. It took much longer to get off the ground and he ended up getting hit with a penalty on the new domain.

So would advise to re-write everything ?

The question is:

Would you still use automated sources to build backlinks?

If yes, then you are still vulnerable to Google attack.

Beside, so many callous competitors giving negative SEO.

How can you handle that?

I advice you remove the link using disavow and build quality links from your own networks only.

I don't plan on using automated sources to build backlinks. At least not my T1. I will probably post some links with GSA using strong filters and quality list for T2-T3.
Competition is not that strong as it's rather local and I don't think any of my competitor is down to negative SEO.

I used the disavow tool and removed "bad" links, keeping the one I made manually. I will see how it goes.
I guess on the same time I'll write new content for the new domain. Who knows, I might be able to get my old back, and the new one ranking too.
