Really cheap trick to get backlinks (depends on niche)

The trick is: piss people off.

I have a site that syndicates funny pictures/comics from a few sites. In one day it got so much hate from authors that they started posting news updates with d0f0llow link on their site saying how bad my site was. I got so many totally hitehat links in one day that my rankings skyrocketed.
