Realistic Pricing for Mobile Website Creation?

Hey guys, I am starting a mobile website building service for local business. Through a WSO I found brickandmobile.com a CMS that I can use that has really easy editing and a few other options. I'm going to use CL to find commission only sales people. I almost have my homepage ready to go.

Now, I want to make it worth the sales staff's time. But, I also want to provide value. I'm targeting local self employed (real estate agents, personal trainers, etc) so I want it to be affordable. The training provide says that you can charge $2000 or so for a real estate agent or $300-800 for other random niches. But, is that realistic, or just a huge number that is thrown out there to bait suckers and get this to buy that WSO and sign up for their monthly service. There is also a $50+/month ongoing charge for changes and reporting.

Honestly, I'm thinking $200 a site - at least at first so I can build my portfolio and get some referals, then split that down the middle for the sales staff. They are technically doing most of the work, (finding, qualifying, etc.).

That depends on various factors.

How much does the acquisition of a client cost you? How much do you spend for hosting/domains?
After you subtracted that amount, think about how much time do you spent creating the clients website. 1 hour? 2? 5? How much is your time worth? Don't sell yourself short here, but keep in mind how much budget the client might have. A lawyer may be able to pay you $150/hour, while a personal trainer might only be able to afford $50.

If you are able to sell the $50/month ongoing fee though, go rather low on the initial price. You will most likely make lots of cash in the long run, focus on customer acquisition.

Anyway, back to my question.

Client acquisition is going to cost me nothing, since I'm relying mostly on sales people that I'm recruiting. That first WSO gives them the cold calling scripts and a few mobile sites to use as sales tools. One shows the potential client how crappy their site is when viewed by a mobile and the other shows about 50 different sites in all different industries.

The clients that I'm planning to work with may have budgets around $50-100/hour, I'm thinking. It'll take me about an hour to sit down with the client to gather info about what they want in a site and less than that to actually put it together. I've been playing around with the CMS and it's pretty good. Speaking of the CMS, it's 3 sites for $67/month, so I'm looking for my first 3 clients' monthly fees to get me to the point where I can pay for one of the next few levels + profit for me. The initial sale should be enough to be beneficial for the sales person and I'm OK with taking a smaller portion if they can provide volume.
 
The best way to figure this stuff out is to split test your calling and your prices to find out what converts the best.

Create a few scripts / Q&As so that you don't forget what you are thinking of charging each client for this work. When you're calling realtors for example, try price points like $2000 including a few months of updates, or $1000 plus $50 per month, or whatever.

Then just keep track of what converts. Easy!
 
Realistically you can charge $200-500 per site and as high as $1000 in some niches.

Like you mentioned, many wso's preach that you can get $2000+ per site, you could but don't count on it.
 
The package I do combines Mobile Web and SMS Marketing.

I give a mobile site away for FREE - as part of a $199 a month package that includes managed SMS(I do everything, even design their ads/printing, make sure they are legal including the phrase : "Standard Message and Data Rates Apply.", schedule sms messages, etc), I also create a facebook fan-gate for them which basically says "Click like to get a buy 1 get 1 free coupon", then after they click like it says "Enter your mobile # to get deals, discounts, and your free coupon" - killing two birds with one stone, and I consult with them on ways to get more subscribers. I also own a local directory using the GeoTheme theme for Wordpress(Awesome), and I give each business a free Featured listing in that.

In essence its more of a subsidized package --meaning a customer sticks with me and I get the 2000 that the mobile site is worth. Plus to them it appears as if I am actually over-delivering.

10 customers is worth 1999 to me, by biggest problems are finding the customers, cause I'm not a sales person - I'm a developer, coder, marketer, but not great on the phone or person to person. I do have one sales person though who goes out and gets me some business.

I'd say $200-$500 is good, if you're just selling it as a mobile site. With a simple twist, and a great USP, you can easily turn that into $1500-$2000 for the same mobile site though. It's all in how you frame it. More and more business owners are being bombarded with pitches for mobile sites these days. Sure, they're relatively easy to sell, but there are definitely ways to increase the perceived value of them. ;)

To me your monthly price seems low for all that you are offering to your customer. Hypothetically, the designing of flyers and prints and of the mobile coupons, testing the sms messages to do see what gives the most opt-ins, monthly reports, etc... On top of that "Facebook" and the whole nine yard... your going to put at least 10 hours a month. That is less than $20 per hour.

Maybe you can add a one time setup fee to cover your initial work.

Well my day job I make $10/hour, so $20 is doing pretty good...and once I get everything setup--months 2+ are more like 3 hours per month. I don't mind putting in some extra time up-front, to keep making larger residuals. Plus, I plan on outsourcing some as soon as I grow to bring my time expenditure down a bit.
 
I'd like to hear more about how you get commission only sales people on CL
