Ready to Take the Plunge

I expect my story is an all too familiar one. Young adult doesn't know what to do with their life goes to uni for the sake of it, finishes with an arguably pointless degree and heads off to become a corporate drone. I suppose the one good thing I learnt is that I can research and I can write, and perhaps more importantly is that I enjoy it! It was one of my more underground friends that then exposed me to BHW and I was excited by what I read. I’m interested in content/copywriting and affiliate marketing but, being a person with a somewhat high risk aversion, found it hard to really throw myself into the seemingly scary world of buying domains, placing ads or even cold pitching companies. However it’s got to the point now where the bad days are outweighing the good. I’m sick of having to preface my answer to the “what do you do for work” question with a “well its only temporary but” response. I despise my spineless job and crave to become someone I am proud of. I’m ready to read, to learn, to invest and take accountability for my work and my life. I’m ready to take the damn plunge.

What's your degree in? Did you expect there to be more demand when you initially researched your degree? Grass is always greener. I see software devs doing $400-700k total comp and I'm like dang, 30-40 hours a week, no real stress, chill, easy life with decent pay... maybe I should have stayed in the CS career path lol.

I cant imagine content writing being better than a corporate job unless you live in a poor country

Thank you! So I did a BA in Media, Culture and Journalism. I guess I thought I was going to be some sort of journalist but quickly realised i’m not a people person, nor can i force myself to be. Thoughts changed to wanted to go into policy writing, I then graduated at the start of the pandemic and just found the opportunities for internships or work experience weren’t there. I took the only job that accepted my application and, well, here I am 2 years later! I feel the same with what you mentioned there about software devs, my best mate is in CS and its painful hearing how bloody great it is. Genuinely.

Feels good knowing I'm getting a CS degree when you said this, though I don't think I'll work a job with it but if times do get hard I might have to fall back on it.

Wow. This is really impressive what you guys say.

I personally don't know anyone making above 100k per year with cs degree but maybe they just lack experience and work with wrong people.

Many journalists enter marketing and do copywriting. It's quite a popular career choice from what I've seen locally living in Poland. One dude is making $100k with copy while another person is making $60k as a software engineer. Both seem to be really good at what they're doing. There's no rule which path will make more money.

A lot of things depend on your connections, type of work you deliver and your selling abilities.

Selling is the key. I haven't sold anything for a long time cause I spent years learning stuff. Now I have the feeling my services and products have to be the highest quality and it kinda slows me down. I feel like I know too much and are limited by economics. I am self taught in everything.

Go ahead and take the plunge. As long as you are good at learning and implementing and you are relentless, you will find success on your own in internet marketing. This is the best time ever to make an entry into internet marketing. Yes, one has to put in a lot of time and efforts & needs some patience as well, but yes, doing so, there are so many people earning decently well in internet marketing and even you can do it.

How did you come up with this? Are you doing IM since 2018 or what? The best times were 15 years ago.

It was so easy to build a huge website or social media following. Today building a micro-niche site takes as much effort as building authority back in the days.

To OP, its good to plan but let your instinct guide you to your money path.
You might end of creating an Income source from what you never expected or planned for.
