Re-directing an EMD domain to my main site

Hey, I have 2 domains:
Domain 1 - EMD targeting a keyword with 1k monthly searches, developed site, PR3 and around 500 backlinks
Domain 2 - EMD targeting a keyword with 8k monthly searches, no PR, no site and no backlinks

I am thinking about re-directing domain 2 to domain 1 and trying to target the keyword with 8k searches on the domain 1 (site with content). So my question is, would this have any positive effect on ranking for the keyword on domain 1 or would I have to build backlinks to domain 2 before it would have any effect?

I don't think it would have any effect, which is why I would build links to Domain 2 and rank it then 301.

don't think it will help that much. You are better of with making it 1 site, and serve the page about keyword2 on EMD2 and then have the rest of the navigation point at EMD1 ..
(so effectively, the whole site except for that 1 page is on EMD1)

Okay, thanks! Do you think I should wait until its on the first page before I 301 re-direct it?

It will have minimal if any effect at all...

I would 301 it now and start building links to both domains.
