This forum is great, but I'm getting really pissed off by the actions of a small minority of new members.

I really do wonder why people join this site when all they seem to do is to post download requests.

There is so much value in the posts on this forum - if you are prepared to put in some time and effort to research - why would you want to request a book on backlinks that's worth $17?

I hate rules, but I really do think we need to educate these people by restricting their ability to post in some sections until they've shown some commitment to the forum.

Freebie seekers should not be made welcome here.

Hmm, might be onto something... Make new users meet a certain post requirement before allowing them to post in the Download or Download Requests section?
 
I agree.

I have somehow "matured" and don't download those stuff (especially ebooks) anymore after realizing that IM is 99% about testing testing testing.

This forum is used by me to troubleshoot problems I had along the way... if you are actually doing IM instead of reading and thinking about IM, then this forum is indeed priceless.
 
Ya not a bad idea at all, maybe 20-25 posts before you can request downloads. There are probably a handful of people who register, put up a download request, get the link then never contribute again. The section seems helpful but it's selfish and unfair to the members on here that do share constantly and need return favors.
 
Exactly! That's my point - they come here to take without giving first.

There are some very helpful and generous people who go out of their way to find stuff for these freeloaders.
 
you know easy your right, im relatively new, kind of an amatuer, (not a noob woohoo) and personally my goal is to get jr. VIP status for now (get to the good stuff), 100 posts plus a donation :D

but the thing is, i took the time to read all the old posts, new posts, ive asked alot but then around my 50th post... it was like magic. i started giving people advice, i was coming outta my cocoon so to speak.. and i started my transition from taking in all i could to giving back (nomatter how little) to the community here.

i now believe, this being my 84th post that its been a learning experience and im officially putting what ive read into practice, the time it takes to get here weeds out the leeches.

but i will disagree with you somewhat easy, its almost impossible to give straight away, especially if you are a noob, there has to be a sponge period.

but all in all i think the posting limit is a great idea, maybe a poll to decide the parameters?
 
I think the download session should be made private. Access by someone with minimum number of Thanks. So everyone will contribute to gain some Thanks.
 
I agree, some people use this website not to post or join the community they just download or request script from anybody...
 
again, please keep the noob in mind, there are some people out there who ARE trying.. and getting thanks doesnt come cheap... you need magnificent posts for that, i dont think it should be thanks based...its not an accurate measure for contribution
 
OK, so when you're new to BH you can't make an expert post. And I'd hate to see all those "Thank great share" posts coming back too.

But when you're new, you learn by asking good questions, new people often see stuff the us more experienced folks miss because its familiar.

Great contributions might be asking the right questions and not being afraid to come forward with ideas and suggestions.

It's usually easy to spot the people who are here for the long term.
 
i agree with the op, its getting silly now and this place is being treated like warez forum. i agree also that newbs and so on should have certain amount of posts behind them.. useful ones. not just thanks posts.. and also been here for a month or so.. but we are getting alot of members here who join. and take shit away from here without contributing one bit..

Yeah i agree to, most of the newbies just come here for the free downloads, if you want to make money you dont need the member download section.

Harro has made a huge sticky thread in the making money section where you can find the gems that post has more value then all the post in the download area all combined, the thing is that most newbies are waiting for the next best thing, and please don't let it be to much work and if it is possible please present it on a silver plate.

Let them post 25/50 posts first before they get access to the download area, that will get rid of a lot a lazy leechers.
 
I noticed the most active forums seem to be the ones for requesting downloads... That's not good for the forum, since it invites too many leechers.

Limiting it to a certain number of posts will bring a lot of worthless postings for the sole purpose of increasing status. It should be a certain number of posts PLUS a certain number of "Thanks!" Perhaps 50 *good* posts (not just questions!) and 8 thanks???

Not sure how I'd do this myself???? :D

I do agree this place is becoming an ebook dump for some people. Most of whom collect the ebooks but, most likely, never read them.

What's happened to the 'thanks' gizmo though? I gave and received thanks but they've all vanished. I just thanked someone a few minutes ago for a helpful post, but nothing appeared under their post like it used to. Makes me look an ungrateful wretch!

Has it been switched off, or is it a bug? I noticed when I just replied to a thread it requested I agree to the T&C, which I'd done previously. Weird.

BTW I agree with the idea of minimum posts - excluding one liners! :)
 
Not sure if this can be done easily.

Noobs must start a thread that have at least 3-5 replies from JR VIP (and above) or normal members with a certain ranking before they can access the download area.

This is to ensure that the thread they started is of reasonable quality.
 
Well, I originally found this place when I did a google search for an ebook I was looking for. I bookmarked it, and eventually came back, started reading, and was like "wow, this place has some great information OUTSIDE of the download section!". So, I ended up signing up, reading, reading, reading! I bought some things from members in the BST section, and feel I'm on my way to making some cash and hopefully being able to contribute back eventually! Granted, I never posted asking for something like the original poster was talking about, just giving my experience of how I found the place, and where I've gone since then. (this was during a time when the member download section could be viewed by people that where not a member of the board)

Basically, what I'm saying is, if that's ALL that people do is just sign up here for the download section, and never look at anything else, that's their own damn fault and loss. This place has so much more to offer than just that section! (which, at this point, I don't even really go into anymore, because I'm busy actually DOING/WORKING ON some of the things I learned here, and not just chasing after "the next thing"!)
