RANT of a NEWBIE!

OP - there's almost no one on this or other IM forums to be taken seriously. And even if they are, usually insults or what not aren't personal in anyway and should be disregarded as such.

It's when I pose a legitimate question and people decide to add input that isnt helpful that is annoying.

OP does raise a valid point.

Which is the contradicting nature of "on topic" rules. Like if you post a thread about boobies in the SEO section, mods will move your thread to the lounge.

But if you make an SEO thread in the SEO section, then 100 people respond to that thread talking about boobies..... nobody seems to GAF.

I'm a member at another forum (non-marketing) where if a member makes a post, and you say something irrelevant to the original post, mods warn you with "please keep it on topic". If you don't keep it on topic they will ban you no questions asked. On BHW, the culture is the exact opposite. As long as a thread title fits in a specific section, the responses that follow can (and often are) about anything but the original post. In an indirect way, it's a system that rewards trolls.

Don't get me wrong, I love the open atmosphere on here. It reminds me of tranceaddict forums which is like the wild wild west. Worse than reddit. Everyone hijacks threads, bullies, trolls... people curse off the mod on a daily basis cause there's only 1 and he only logs in like twice a year.

On here, things aren't that crazy. But for a marketing & business forum, it does get pretty wild sometimes. If you do the numbers right now there are almost 7,000 people online. And looking through the names of people online, I can only identify 2 active mods. Which is a ratio of 1/3,500. I'm not complaining, I'm just pointing out that every forum has it's own culture. Lots of noobs do complain when they come here. And it does take time to adjust. But once you do adjust, and people are more accepting, you don't want anything to change. Like if mods decide 1 day to go around the forums pestering people to "keep it on topic", and they got really serious about it, I'd leave this forum in a heartbeat. Even though part of me wants that to happen.... lets face it - we are all entrepreneurs, we're fiercely independent people, and I don't think anyone wants mods barking petty orders all day long. Afterall, they have much more serious problems to deal with.

In essence, being different from other IM forums is what BHW is about. It can be damn serious on one side while threads like this one (all credit to OP :)) gives the entertainment value our members deserve. Of course, some/most times this crosses all tolerable borders! BHW members, most of those are quite busy in life, and some who are not too busy and that makes them come here to release their share of loads. Some more simply go a little childish and ask questions that irritate or annoy members... to all of them, the old members, the new ones, and the not so new ones, BHW is like a second home where all that's stored up in the hearts come out on a thread. But I have seen many members who began on the wrong foot, have become some of the best members on BHW. So, give them enough time... let them rant if the need to, BHW needs to understand and protect them too... whereelse they can be so free to talk out what's bugging them? ;) But the ranters must understand that there is of course a limit to everything, so... lol

I don't think any other forum, IM related especially, have this kind of strong bond between the members and itself. I am busy in a different field in my life, especially after having gone through a death-like experience thrice in quick succession. Doctors have said that another one can end my pains forever, so I should be extra careful! Those guys really know how to make someone become sh!t scary and jumpy, or some others become more determined to endure whatever... lol. Being on BHW makes me forget those pains, and makes me energetic by not just mingling with others on the threads, but simply reading them silently too. Such is the value, immensely positive, that BHW provides to me and, I guess, to all others here.

I think our Mods are doing quite well by keeping the "homeliness" going. :) If they begin pulling out the cane, then I don't know how many will leave -- definitely I will, and very dissapointed that the Home has become yet another of those "normal" IM forums... This special atmosphere on BHW is really lovely, to say the least! Almost every day, BHW is the first site that I open -- I think the same is the story with most others here.

That proves that however this site runs, members love it anyway it presents itself. BHW definitely has a wonderful life of its own...

P.S.:
As said, I'm in a different field now, and I don't care if BHW's IM related topics are relevant or not so relevant to me any more. But the whole soul of BHW, this special interaction and a special relation that has formed over the time is invaluable to me. Just can't stay away until final curtains. :D
