I think I have to vent. I've been a member of this forum for a maybe two years now and tried hiring a few people on here for several tasks. I used both, the marketplace as well as posted custom job posts. So far, I'm less than impressed with any hire, or near hire. It's always the same bull****. Seller/service provider is responsive, seems honest, has decent reviews and references and then, the moment money exchanges hands, it becomes a drag and I have to pull sh** out of their noses in order to get the service I paid for. The end result usually is less than impressive as well, only containing about half the things that were promised initially.

Some recent examples:

Hired a person to create a website for a side hustle of mine. It's a simple wordpress website but I suck at design so I hired someone who promised the world on here. What was supposed to be a one week turnaround time dragged out over about a month and the website was so crappy, I ended up hiring someone through Upwork, at a similar rate and much better quality.

Hired a person to create a new blog and do some SEO for an unrelated website. While the person was super responsive, after I paid, there was pretty much radio silence. After I got no update at all for a while, I asked for an update at which point the person said it'll be all live and done by the end of the week (last week). Sunday night, still nothing, no SEO report, no live blog and no communication, so I sent another message on Monday (in less nice tone) and he came back (after reaching out on multiple channels) with a barrage of excuses. At least the blog went live that same day. The SEO report is supposed to arrive this weekend. The cherry on top, after turning out to be unreliable, he still tried cross selling me a new service. Maybe, if the quality of the service turns out to be outstanding, I can live with it. That's to be determined.

Hired a person to help with online reputation by creating reviews online. Again, super responsive until payment, then suddenly crickets. Followed up multiple times with no response. Three days later, he came back with a set of excuses (holidays, weather, whatever) and said he'll work on it now. Two days after that, he assured me that reviews will start on Monday (yesterday). Now, almost at the end of Tuesday, still nothing. Tried to communicate and once again, crickets. I specifically hired this guy after another seller six or so months ago promised the world with online reviews, only to find out that all reviews were pretty much sh** (horrible English, reviews on my profile clearly meant for another company, etc.)... Again, if this new guy turns out to be outstanding quality, I can live with some delay, but that's to be determined.

Anyway, just wanted to rant about the quality of service I've received from folks on this forum so far. What has been your experience? Any tips/advice on how to hire the right people on here?

You should discuss SLAs and SLA breaches, document everything before you pay.

Don't forget to provide an honest review if they have a BST. This will help other buyers get an idea of what to expect.

Agreed, giving them an honest review in their thread might help others avoid experiencing the same issues and might encourage the sellers to increase the quality of their service in general.

Finding the right people to work with is one of the hardest tasks an entrepreneur has to deal with.

leave an honest review in their BST and don't fall in the "my mother is sick I need money, leave positive review sir" mentality, if the service is bad, write it.

As strange as it sounds, I had a lot better experience outside of BHW for my stuff...

I think most of the sellers on fiverr and upwork who sell shit, end up reselling stuff here for a price a bit higher... My fish opinion only...

no one wants to find the "wrong" people to work with lol.

As everyone said, leave a review.
If you had clear documents on what you asked and agreed upon and they did not deliver.
Start a shit list and get it resolved.
Always talk talk talk talk and talk to all sellers. If you can't, don't bother buying. If you can't express yourself, noone going to understand what you want.
However if you have, it was point clear what you wanted and it wasn't delivered, then BHW can jump in and assist.

Don't bother ranting, not going help you.
Leave the honest review on their thread and if possible, shit list them

Unfortunately a lot of people don't understand the meaning of customer service.
It's like they've fooled you to get your business, not caring about repeat business.
Here's an advice to the sellers : you'll earn more from repeat business if you're good than you'll make from newer ones. So focus on customer satisfaction.

Although few, there are some great quality services on this site. Unfortunately, you just gotta get through a lot of shit first.

I care for all my customers. I answer my messages during my dinner. I resolve all issues so please do not categorize all BHW sellers

99% of sellers took my money and provided zero value -10k here. Only if you get a referral should you buy anything here

smartest thing people do is ask me on pm how my service was. I will never leave an honest review to a seller that knows my website you must be joking no thanks

I'm sorry to hear about your experiences here.

I've hired people from the forum and worked with others, and I've experienced a range of quality from them. Some sellers offered a genuinely good product that I used for years, and then I had others like the ones you got where their mother died every other week.

However, I'm under the same notion @CyberFear is; finding the right people for the job is a difficult task.

I think it's good for the OP to post about his experiences as we need more people speaking up so that we can attract more quality sellers to the forum and push out the low quality ones; we don't need any used car salesman here who dip the second they get a payment.

Seems like you hired the wrong handful of sellers, sadly. Most sellers are good, but the few that waste time and scam ruin it for the rest.

Well, I mean as ranting in the lounge section where it's just going get pushed to the end and never found again in a few days/weeks time. (we know how many people actually knows how to use the advance search button)
Put it visibility where people can see it, like that sales thread :)
Sorry, I wasn't being very clear

I've found that on forums like this, sellers are typically heavily focused on Sales and less on the delivery of the services. Vetting freelancers and services is a full job on its own. That's why I'd recommend to work with a Freelance Manager or hire your own HR dep - if hiring is essential for your business. If it's a one-time thing, you kinda have to do it yourself.

Lots of scam artists disguised as 'honest sellers' :)

The service quality on BHW is absolutely dreadful for nearly anything!
I have tried to use a lot of the services here and have had a bad experience almost every time..

Most of the services here are absolute shit/ utter useless and top of it all heavily overpriced when comparing to other places where you can get the same.
For every 10 services here, only 1 or 2 is decent on BHW!
Good luck finding the good ones, as every one is from ''established member'' with lots of posts and some good reviews in their thread...

I have used a couple here so far services was good overall not really have issues or problems with people overall I bought of normally buy of this site to run experiments so maybe that makes me to nice or polite sometimes but in generally most just for experiments here or something sounds cool or interesting will buy it sometimes.

I was about to recommend you perhaps trying a freelance platform like Upwork instead of hiring here from the marketplace or posting jobs.

I know on Upwork you can still "fake" or "inflate" your reviews but it´s a hell lot harder than on any other platform. So, you´ll be closer to receive much better work there than on any other freelance platform on the market.
