If this post isnt in the right section, I applogize. Feel free to move.

My adult toy site (which I'm not sure if I'm allowed to list but is easy to figure out) has been moving up the ranks somewhat quickly as of late. I have been pushing alot of competative keywords for the past few months rather than longtail keywords. It was rather slow at first because of the competition but I'm finaly starting to make some real progress and move up the ranks. I use a few different tools to check my rankings including seoserp and seocentro, as well as checking them manually on google search.

(For this post I will be listing my keywords with " "although they are not actually searched with them. Its just to make it easier to read.)

I orginally starting hitting the keywords "rabbit vibrators" pretty hard then starting moving towards keywords such as 'buy sex toys". Of course when I started my site was new and was nowhere to found. After obscene amounts of reading I've learned tons about seo. I started off pretty slowly, but as the months go on, I am pushing my seo efforts harder and harder.

My site rankings are as follows using the tools above, and shouldnt vary more than a couple of spots for any given area...

    Rabbit Vibrators: ranked number 3

    buy sex toys: 13

sexual toys:11 (this one is on the move. It was 16th about 2 weeks ago then it was 6 and now 11. Its jumping around since I started pushing it hard. It should settle in the top 10 soon.)

    adult toys: 22

sex toys: 70 (I have never tried to rank for this term but I noticed I jumped from the 400's, so I just started pushing it.)

    sexual lubricants: 187

    sextoy reviews:180

sex toy shop: 74( just started this one also)

There are some others but this gives you an idea of where I'm at. At this point, based on google analytics, I average about 20 visitors a day. "Rabbit vibrators" brings in the most traffic but I would have thought it would be more. Google keyword tool shows about 33k local searches a month for this term alone. Using this past week, since my rankings for this term havent moved since then, I have 53 clicks for this term. Now I understand I'm not number 1 yet but out of a possible 8250 searches a week I would think I'd get a little more. Now I dont pretend to know everything about this and I could easily be missing something.

My sales are dismal at best in my opinion. A couple of weeks ago I did get a single sale of about $430.00 but my sales are few and far between.

I'm really looking to hear other peoples successes and failures based on their rankings and traffic, as well as advice from people who have successful sites.

I'll hit number 1 for rabbit vibrators, as well as top 10's on some of my other terms soon, but now I question the traffic I'll gain. I log my ranking results every 5 days, and I may start to keep this thread going with the results vs traffic changes.

What are your seo efforts like if you dont mind me asking?
Do you have unique content on your product pages or are you not currently trying to rank for specific products?
How are your prices compared to the competition?

Try getting some links from adult sites/forums that have your keywords. I finally understand the power of Niche relevancy when Backlinking.

Well since my last post things plummeted pretty hard. I used a mass blog commenting service that pretty much wiped my site off the face of the map for a while. I didnt get sandboxed or anything but my ranking fell to nothing.

Rabbit Vibrators which was huge for me, was a little under 200 and some of the others couldnt even be found. I've since begun to rebound. According to seoserp Rabbit vibrators is back to 10. Its been holding strong at 10 for a week and I'm hoping will continue to move up.

I certainly have alot to learn when it comes to seo but so far what I've been doing seems to work except for the mass blog comments.

To answer some questions.. I do have a little unique content on my subpages. Not all of them since there are 10's of thousands of products. Its mainly on each category. My blog is attatched to my site as well, but to be honest I'm not sure how much its helping. I was adding a new post pretty frequently, but I've been slacking pretty hard in that department lately. I hardly ever change the content on my pages, after the initial writing. Of course all my tags include keywords.

As for linkbuilding, I started doing it all manually. I wrote articles and just submitted them where I could. Then I used articlemarketingnetwork, or I think thats what it was called. That seemed to help somewhat better than doing it myself. I've used sicksubmitter for profile blasts. Leased a few pr3 links for really cheap. I've used quite of bit of stuff to be honest.

What I seem to like the most is article marketing and a little bit of profile backlinks. Mylinkclub was my favorite my far but they have been acting odd and not doing the work till the last minute lately so I just cancelled them the other day. I use a few services from this and a couple other forums for article/blog posts as of right now. Im trying to decide on a new "Main Linkbuilding Strategy" as of right now.

Anyway I'll go ahead and update my ranks since the last time. There are worse than before but remember I'm recovering from the commenting blast.

Rabbit Vibrators: ranked number 10 with seo serp and number 8 with seocentro

buy sex toys: 19 with seocentro

    sexual toys:39

    adult toys: 71

    sex toys: 250

    sexual lubricants: 459

    sex toy shop: 357

    Thanks for keeping us informed!

I find that the adult stuff is the hardest to promote.

Not many sites will accept adult content for articles (as far as I know) and the link building that is another thing......

Glad to see that your site is recovering.

I will stay away from the mass blog commenting, based on your experience.

You are right about adult content being hard to promote but a good idea if you havent ever tried is not to use actual adult content.

For example.. I may post a dating article and at the bottom of the article just say: Brought to you buy "Adult Toys". With a link of course. Its not perfect but it seems to get the job done and I get alot more to stick.

Im actually about to hit this method hard again with a different software, since its this method that got me to my better rankings anyway.

So I thought I'd try some new software that makes submitting my articles to thousands of article directories pretty quickly. I just started using it a day and a half ago. I'm of course targeting some of my normal keywords, but more importantly I've decided to do a bit of a case study.

I chose a deep inner page with part of the url ending with "lubricants-waterbased". The page doesnt have any backlinks and wasn't in the top 1000 urls to rank for this keyword. I spun and article up manually, and blasted away using "water based lubricants as my anchor. Today that url is at 556 for "water based lubricants" and 483 for "waterbased lubricants". I realize that doesnt mean much, but hopefully it continues to climbs easily.

I havent noticed any change in my other keywords yet. My site however is beginning to pick up alot more unique visitors and a few more sales. I dont attest this to the articles, but rather google shopping. Not sure if I mentioned before but my site gets updated into google daily and my prices are always close to the lowest if not the lowest.
