Rankings shoot up, then go down slowly

Maybe you all can help me figure out what is going on with one of my sites.

1. Four month old site, with 60 pages of content. About 60 links to it
2. I have two inner pages, I'm focused on ranking for, for two easy to rank for keywords
3. I pointed 10 PBN links from 5 sites to these pages. After two days, the rankings shot up a ton
4. After a few days however, the rankings began to go down, slowly but surely, for two weeks now

After two weeks, I've pointed 10 more PBN links from 5 different sites again at these two pages. Rankings have continued on their slow downward path, even though its been a few days. Thinking of possible solutions.

I've only got about 12 links to each of these inner pages, one of the anchors is at 33%, but with so few links, I didn't think that mattered. Could this be causing it?
I haven't build any "http://www" links to these pages yet. I do have a ton of citations with the url though
I don't have a ton of links to the homepage

What are some solutions? I've been dripping web 2.0 links to the homepage and inner pages for three weeks now. Is all of this natural and I should just be patient? Normally my sites go up in rankings steadily, not shoot up a ton and then drop slowly. Thanks!

is this site in your webmaster tools? maybe it got hit? do a check before you do anything else, my 2 cents

Yep. No penalty

The new links made Google think you were now and wow. You needed to added more links to maintain the ranking or add more internal content linked to those pages.

Build more links but allow around 2 weeks for results, the various google updates could cause a number of fluctuations, all down to their popular dance.

make sure no one is spamming it.

Interesting, ive never heard of that. Is it too late, or can I start building links now? Haven't had that problem

It is never too late to continue building links, your rankings may continue to go down for a while and may even not rank at all, but soon you will regain your rankings provided that you have not been penalized in any way.

It could be the sandbox effect. Google will test the waters to see how visitors react to your website; if it draws in attention and keeps people on the site you'll remain in the top, if not you enter a sandbox period for roughly 2 months. Expect the rankings to shoot back up after about 60 days.

This is why PBN aren't sustainable. The problem is that they fall off the homepage and fall farther and farther back in the sites archives. That means less and less pagerank, and eventually those pages may even fall out of Google's index.

You need to keep feeding the beast to sustain the rankings.

Ok been working on SEO for a long time and I am far from good at it but I have developed an understanding for it in my own mind that may or may not be accurate. I want to put this out there for the experts to critique if they want to (which i hope they do cuz I want to learn how to get this shit right)

Obviously you need to make your sites "growth" and "popularity" look as natural as possible.....this is only obvious right?

well ok understood......but how do you go about this in the best way possible?

First you need unique content right? ok fine no problem..... write it yourself and don't copy others...easy

But no its not as easy as that ....your content has to be unique but it also has to be USEFUL and interesting...It has to intrigue people and make them want to share with their friends and such...now its getting a bit more difficult. in my mind if you can get this right you are most of the way there.

The off page seo is the easy part but it has to be done in the right manner as well....

you need to build the links in a natural way as well with many different anchor variations, platforms, social signals etc.... just like a site that is getting very popular would....you need to think this way to rank strong and long

but you can't just build a bunch of links and then quit....what you need to do is build them slowly at first then gradually increase the link velocity and MAINTAIN the links and social interaction as well as the content creation

I know there is way more to it then this but i think these are the basics to doing well with seo...please correct me if i am way off on this people

In my opinion, and based on a recent test I just made and published, your link velocity is too high for a new site. 2 PBN links per week seems to be the magic number for anything less than a 9 month old site. And like a previous poster pointed out, you're going to have to make sure you're balancing your high powered links with a suitable amount of social signals for validity.

@rschmitz: are you running your own PBN or did you buy them from services over here ? if you bought them from services here would you mind sharing them with us ? thank.

Op im betting it has something to do with either.

1. site age - my site is new and fluctates from page 2 to 3 per hour - granted ive been lazy and stopped seoing it

2. pbn links - falling off homepage if bougten

3. initial ranking boost followed by settling by google

4. seo is a clusterfuck of unabsolutes

Seo is indeed complicated just like my wife, but best plan is to test what works and what doesn't. What works for some may not work for others. But it is good to see your keyword doing well, I am interested to see how long it stays at the position.
