Ok, so I have been doing a total redesign to my website, moved from wordpress to a simple template, and changed a little content . The links for the articles that I had on the previous design, had changed but I didn't change the links that I was targetting to rank in google . After 1 day after the redesign was finished, 4 keywords dropped like 200-300 positions, 1 remained on the 3rd position and one on the 12th . Will this be only temporary until google crawls again my website, or should I be worried ? Thanks .

No one can tell for sure. Wait some time and you will see.

It's actually quite common. You changed the layout which changes the way Google Bot crawls over your site. This 200-300 change in position is Google dancing while Google Bot tries to figure out what you did to your website. It'll settle down, however you may or may not land in the same spot you were in originally.

My advice is to keep moving forward, adding new and fresh content to the new site. Basically make sure you keep everything active, so Google continues to crawl and reindex.

That move from WordPress to HTML i guess caused the problems. Did you submit the new sitemap?

Thanks for all the help and suggestions, I made a 301 redirect to all the old links to the new ones, and the links that were removed, I redirected them to the domain's name and I submitted the new sitemap to GWT . I hope that's enough and to start ranking again .

It's a lot of factors that may have been causing this ranking drops. For example, how old is the site and domain? Have you built any links to the site recently after the design update?

No one can tell you sure because from last few days google has too much changes so you have to wait till its stable ...

I see in my GWT that I have an error on the CRAWL Erros :
"Googlebot couldn't crawl your URL because your server either requires login to access the page, or is blocking Googlebot from accessing your site." The link that has been detected as an error is : mydomain.com/cgi-bin . Should I be worried about that ? Thanks .
