Ranking Youtube vids - does an embed count the same as a backlink?

Trying to come up with a solid ranking program and want to know about backlinking to a youtube vid.

Does embedding a youtube vid on a site count the same as a simple backlink to the video or what?

Backlinks and embeds are totally different , but to add diversity it's ok to have your video embeded on other sites, but very important is to get some plays on the embeds.

I figured they might be different, was wondering if embeds might contribute to the vid's ranking...
