Ranking Wont Budge

So I'm trying to rank for a competiitve keyword. I got the keyword to the 6th position, but it has not budget in a little over a month. Here's my strategy:

1. WEB 2.0's (lots of them). Hand built with lots of content.

2. Tier 2 and 3 to the WEB 2.0's

3. Social Bookmarks

4. High PR Guest Posts (2 a week)

I'm targeting only one keyword and vary the anchor text.

The site even has tons of videos on YouTube and I'm in the process of creating more. I noticed the top sites have links from US.Gov, which are hard to acquire. Aside from that, I think my strategy is a lot stronger.

Any suggestions?

How long have you been running the campaign overall?

Most .edu & .gov links are nofollow but they are good for link diversification. What is your current anchor text ratio?

I would try a 100-200 link high PR blog comment blast as long as that doesn't screw your anchor txt ratio. Manual of course.

Mix in a few quality high PR homepage contextual links. That seems to always give it a nice kick. Other then that, analyze your competitors with majesticseo and see which high quality links you're missing and try to match them.

Social signals like Fbook/G+1 might give you boost.

On topic/relevant blog comments (manual) still work

Oddly enough, high authority social site profiles can give boost as well, just keep in mind just to brand/url anchor your site root - make it look natural, don't use your actual keywords or deeper pages.

I don't know your site format, I mostly work with blogs. Sometimes, when things get stuck, I put up a fresh post and try make it "viral" create link spikes to site root and actual post for a week or two - kind of give it a lots of social bookmarks/etc and that drags along rest of the site.

G is still a bit of popularity whore so freshening up site and afterwards initiating a massive high authority/pr social bookmarking campaign might do the trick if you combine it with other social signals.

It's a good practice to look at your competitors and compare to what you have on site, check the bounce rates and time spent on site - maybe you are missing something that they have and you don't.

I would xrumer all the web2.0s to give them more juice, also I would backlink your deep links of the money site to make it look more natural.

But if your really game, xrumer the money site directly with a TON of diverse links, leave no footprint behind!!!!

I started the campaign in October. I'll be honest, I am using very aggressive anchor text. Exact match, but that's how I got to the 1st page to begin with! Now I'm diversifing my anchor text a lot more.

The site itself is pretty static. No new content has been updated.

And the .gov links in this case are ********. I will admit, they are good links, but just 1-2 cant be reason I am not making it to the top!

The social media side is a bit weak, but I cant think of any way to replicate social signs!

Relevant directories also helped quite a bit, but there are so many and some of them charge money!

Keep adding to the tier 2 of your existing tier 1 links. You can boost the PR of your tier 1 links, which is what is going get you a top rank

Have you updated your own site with content?

oni3350, you are a brave soul to xrumer everything and including the $ site! This is not something I would do/recommend personally.

Content is key in this and also dripfeed your backlinks so it looks naturally
