Ranking without links

i've ranked plenty of low to medium competition keywords without backlinks.
competitive terms are a completely different story though.

Programmaic SEO works if pages provide real value. thin mass-generated pages usually fail long terms.

For competitive keywords, It is very very tough, you must provide real value and a programmatic SEO for this.

you can skip the links if you just hoard your own power. Take your top 3 highest-traffic pages right now and aggressively link them to your target page. Combine that with a tight 10-page content cluster to build instant topical authority, and you can absolutely bully big sites without spending a dime on guest posts.

I personally haven't.

And after reviews thousand of competitive SERPs, others haven't either.

There seems to be a certain competitive threshold when backlinks become a must.
On-site factors alone are simply not enough to prove you are an authoritative resource.

It is possible if your on page and topical authority are flawless. You have to find low hanging long tail keywords first, build a tight cluster and nail the search intent perfectly It takes longer but works. :)

Yeah, but it happens rare. Those low authority sites can sometimes end up ranking on competitive queries if the content is really exceptional, the site has decent topical authority , decent internal linking, and people engage with it well. Still, for most keywords that are highly competitive, backlinks remain a big ranking signal, so it’s hard to hold the top positions without them.

Yes, But it is very rare. in most competitive niches, ranking without backlinks usually happens only when the site already has strong authority or brand singals.

Yes, But only rarely, competetive keywords usually still require backlinks.

Has anyone recently taken the time to rank competitive keywords without doing any backlinking?
Low to medium competition websites can be done without many high quality links. Higher competition websites though do need links.

Yes, but it depends on what you mean by "competitive." I've seen pages rank for moderately competitive keywords with little to no backlink building by focusing heavily on content quality, topical authority, internal linking, and matching search intent better than existing results.

That said, for truly competitive keywords in established niches, backlinks still seem to play a major role. You might get some traction without them, but reaching and maintaining top positions is much harder when competing against sites with strong authority and link profiles.

My experience is that great content can get you surprisingly far, but eventually you'll hit a ceiling if the competition has both quality content and strong backlinks.

for competitive keyword, ranking without backlinks is usually only possible when the domain is already strong authority. and the domain is old. otherwise you will need backlinks to rank, and even then. it take time to see result.

Sometimes in local seo there are websites ranking on #1 place with almost no backlinks, but those are not so hard to outrank. From my experience they are usually just in business for a very long time - like having that website on and runnig for 10 - 15 years... But they can be outranked with some on-page seo, backlinks and topical authority.
