Ranking with old domains

I have the opportunity to purchase a domain that is about 8 years old. Will the age factor help with ranking?

Yes, however ideally it should have some authority too.
 
It has one backlink from moneycnncom since 2008
 
That's not much, but still better than a newly registered domain.

Age is only one factor beside that also check DA/PA, TF/CF and referring domains.
 
If the domain hasn't been spammed to death in the past, it'll give you a headstart over brand new domains.
 
Definately helpful..but also check the age of you competitors too..i did the same mistake only to find out that my competitors domain was 16 yrs old and i had to put in a lot of extra efforts to pull him down from 1st position for my top keyword
