Ranking with not the correct page- How to fix?

Hi Friends!

I have an ecommerce site and I have some ranking issues.
What should I do if:
I have a category page: Nike Shoes (with 600 words text). But for the keyword "Nike Soes" not this page rank but also one of my products in the Nike Shoes category. (The category's metas don't contain the keyword. I put a link at the product to the category but still not better.)

I don't understand this situation.
Please, if you have some idea to fix this, share with me.

This is confusing. You have a page not containing nike shoes which ranks for nike shoes. But you really want the category page to rank instead?

Try To Build More Quality Links To The Page!

This is a common scenario these days.

Google ranks the page that you don't intend.

Why?

Google finds the page it picked more relevant for the query. Simple as that.

1. Google prefers to rank deeper pages not categories / directories
- deeper inner pages tend to answer the query better

2. Meta
- you said it yourself, on-page is poor
- title, URL and H1 should be optimized

3. Index
- is the category page even indexed?
- if not it cannot beat the product page

Here is what do to.

1. Optimize the category page.
2. Make sure it is indexed.
3. De-index the product page

Alternative:
Push rankings of the product page and ignore category page.
