I posted this in the white hat seo section but i figured i would also post it here because some people dont go to other threads, so here was my original post :

Good morning folks, I am soon to bel aunching a revolutionary way to purchase computers and workstations,

For the beginning I want to focus primarily on selling gaming dekstops.
These dekstops will be relatively inexpensive comprared to the $300-$1,000.00 markups the competition charges, and best all they will be completely customizable bearing of course that the parts are compatible

SO...! My question is. How difficult would it be to rank the following keywords on the first page of google?

Gaming computer.
Buy gaming computer
buy gaming pc
Buy cheap gaming computer
build gaming computer

Using >> WHITEHAT << Seo techniques, I cannot afford to have my website hit by penalties in the future. So everything needs to be legitimate.

And would it be expensive to have someone doing this?

Thnx!

Prototypegaming,

Without doing in depth research on these keywords, I would venture a guess that it would be moderately difficult to rank for these key terms. Gaming computer in general is a very generalized term and there is a lot of volume on it. I would say that with a concerted effort you should be able to rank fairly well.

Here are some good tips on keyword research,

Hope that helps you,

Google behaving they way google behaves right now, I wouldn't even bother to fight for those KW organically. Your margins, however low, must be good enough for you to focus on PPC. One of my companies employed an adsense specialist last year and we have seen phenomenal results. In the end the cost is lower than the absurd amounts we were spending on SEO.

Of course there are some businesses where paid ads are not an option (I own some sites generating only ad income and where selling stuff is out of the question). But if you can stay away from SEO and find other sources - combine paid ads with social media marketing, offline ads, fax marketing (still works in many markets) etc etc. I just think you will spend more time and money on getting ranked #5+ on "buy pc" than it's really worth.

I second Thecontentauthority advice
read and make indepth research 1st

These keywords are relatively easy to rank for an experienced SEO guy. Exact searches are:

Gaming computer - 14800
Buy gaming computer - 260
buy gaming pc - 720
Buy cheap gaming computer - 28
build gaming computer - 720

Now if you dont know what you are doing then might be difficult. Also i would go grey hat (white hat links to your site and black hat links to the white hat links). White hat, black hat, grey hat etc can all end with penalty if you dont know what you are doing and do not diversify anchor text and link types. There are also potential onpage issues that can get penalised so do not assume white hat links will keep you safe from any potential algo update penalty.

Go to do your research son. Google "google external tool" and use the first listing. Put your keywords in the box. Shazam. Instant analysis.

All that gives you is the search volume! You need to do further analysis of the top ten sites and backlinks profile to determine how easy or difficult it would be to rank they keywords.
